This is what I have seen people do when they post pictures. I don't have a farm name so I just put that on there. I have also seen it where it is much bigger and goes across the whole picture but for sure it covers the chickens. Picnik~ It is at a free photo editing site~picnik.com~you can add words to your pictures but they will be closing April 19 so I don't know what will take its place then.

ETHICS and OTHER THOUGHTS

Sorry if I ramble on this one. So many thoughts going through my mind.

If you ask what will I get when I cross x with y I will not answer. The answer is a mutt/chicken. They can be beautiful yard birds but I don't think they offer much to the breed as a whole.

I really like most of the people I meet at shows. I have learned SO much from them. Listen to those who have done it and are willing to share their knowledge with me/us.. Don't talk except to ask questions and accept their incredible gift.

People who use our pictures to sell their product / eggs for a profit make me mad. Take a picture of your own bird. If it isn't good enough then take another picture. If the bird isn't good to use pictures of maybe you should not be selling eggs from it.

I stay on the Cochin thread only so I don't make myself angry over the childish and stupid stuff I see sometimes. In general I am proud of the Cochin enthusiasts on this thread. Gail for keeping me much nicer and focused as well as her leadership with the Cochin International Breeders guide. Casey for coming back and helping all of us with his knowledge. Tom for his leadership in the breed and sharing  his Columbians with me.

If someone wants to show and is unsure what to do PM me and I will walk you through the process. I will help if I can. It is only scary the first time. It keeps getting easier the more I do it.

Craig

I appreciatesmile.png that you are still on this thread Craig, and Casey, and Tom, and Gail and the other cochin enthusiasts that are serious about the breed and love them.  I am very serious about it and would clasifiy myself as a newcomer.  I have lots of questions to ask. So thank you all for your feedback and help.

So sorry Lynne. That bites! And so sorry Casey. (about the pictures)

I too have thought there was a lot of silliness going on here, but haven't been on other sites to know any different. I wasnt going to say anything but hey, nows the time I guess. Years ago (well not that many years), when I bought some hatching eggs on here, I was very careful and researched the people before I ever bought any eggs. And I didn't go through the auction, I did it privately.  I was very shy about who I bought eggs from.

I just hope you guys/gals stay on here to help us newbies along.

I will pluck then Craig. Maybe one bird a day. Even though I don't want to.

So ~ What do you think of my hen?  She is the best one I have,  I think. I have been having trouble with their combs, but if I breed enough of them I should hopefully get some good ones. I like her comb best but she isn't laying right now.

Pluck the hens vent and up and the rooster vent and below. . You can check as you go to see if feathers will interfere with contact. It will seem like lots of feathers.

She is a keeper

I have enjoyed following this cochin thread, learned so much, met some really nice folks, enjoyed seeing pictures of everyone's birds, tried not to step on anyone's toes, loved sharing my pictures of my birds~

Sadly and honestly though, I'm almost afraid to post anything on here anymore  sad.png

I read a lot of the talk on here but seldom post either. I notice a bit of ........um.....difference to what I feel about my birds.

I breed the best to the best and hope for the best. I have some awesome birds but do not show them personally. I have people buy from me and show them and keep quiet about where they got them when they do well. That is fine for me. I get a snicker out of them beating breeders that like to brag about how great theirs are and thumb their noses at "beginners". I am not here for fame and fortune. I just love sharing my love for Cochins.

I know we all love them and I am one of those that works on several different kinds of projects with them and breed a few pens of just type instead of color since that is only icing on the cake and still just as sweet. They are still Cochins whether or not they are accepted into the SOP.

I will keep reading on here but won't post as much because some of my friends have been hurt and some no longer even own Cochins because of this thread and breeders at the shows. It can't hurt me because as I have said, I breed for what I like and no one else. It just so happens I love a well balanced Cochin that has been around for many, many years and came from another country.

Bantam Cochins are my love! Mille Fleur projects, buff barred projects and black/blue Mottled. Chickens, Guineas, Ducks, Peafowl and Meal Worms. Contact me for hatching eggs and a link to my website.
