I am not sure but I think new posters can not put photos on the forums. You have to post so many times or be a member for a period of time but I really do not know for sure.

Sorry I could not help more.

Now... Lay it on me... I am asking, because I am sure Beakman is not show quality, but maybe he's okay enough to add some type to my MFs that are lacking.  Maybe I should post in the MF forum instead... What do you think of Beakman?  And heck, what about Byron, too?

I know they are supposed to be a ball, both boys are alerted so they are 'long in the leg' as I like to call it.  Other than that?  Hows his wing carriage?  His tail (a little to small and not full enough?), I know his comb is short a point or 2...

b3.jpgb4.jpg

He was not cooperating for pictures.  He's also 9 months old now.

Next, Byron.  He's my nicest boy... If that says anything.  None of my birds have that round ball thing going on.  -sigh-

by2.jpgby1.jpg

He wouldn't quit running back and forth...

Thanks in advance.  I'm not expecting 'Crossroad Champions', here.  Lay it on me.

I like Beakman's type better than Byron's. But that's just my opinion. :)

i think you have to have something like 20 posts to be able to attach pics

and on beakman and byron, i like them both. LOL  yeah i'm not much help. what color is byron?  buff columbian?  wow. all the bc's i've seen in the past were just kinda 'blah' and not much to write home about, or their black markings were so sporradic they looked more mottled or something... so i've avoided that color for a while. maybe i need to go back and take a look at them again.

I am very new at this but what I see is pretty good shape on Beakman. I like his short back and I bet that when he is not "standing up" for the camera he is probably pretty level in his head and tail height. He looks like he has a nice broad chest. His wing carriage doesn't look any lower than my two black cochin boys I just got. Its hard to tell from a picture but his eye color looks pretty good and I personally like his overall facial expression. I really like my cochins to "look" inquisitive. I think it lends itself as a good predictor of overall temperment. I have a terrible time taking flattering photos of my birds so these are pretty good pictures. It is so hard to capture a bird in a good moment.

Byron-handsome boy but looks "long" in his back in these pics? Looks like he has some nice foot feathering! It is hard to tell if it is the sunlight or if his eye color is lighter than Beakman but still looks brown/bay in color without any grey or green. Byron has a nice comb but I like Beakman's overall expression better personally.

If I had to guess I bet Beakman is the personable boy and Byron is busy running up and down the fence trying to find something to get into trouble with. wink.png

Just my 2 cents, I am very new at this and if I have gotten anything wrong please let me know. I like to look over a bird and think about what the breed standard calls for and how that bird fits that "mold." I also think that perfect birds are hard to come by and sometimes you have to start out with lesser birds and hatch a lot/ cull hard and you can improve over time. I have seen folks start out with seramas that were terrible pet quality birds and over time and with lots of work and culling produce a really nice breeding quality bird. It can be done. It is also really important to me that I have only nice birds around. My cockerels are super sweet boys who will find treats for me!! They are love bugs and I don't tolerate rotten attitudes in my boys or boys who are rough on the girls. I have one tarzan in the large fowl pen right now who is gonna get tossed into the butcher pen as soon as it is finished.

Yeah, Byron isn't normally so upright either.  He was running the fence.  He's an arse - a nasty arse.  He puts himself between me and his one girl and herds her away from me.  He'll attack my hand if I am not careful.  Usually an axe handle goes in the condo before my hand when I water, feed and collect Bridgette's egg.  I decided plucking his bum was good justice.  Everyone else got trimmed with the scissors.   -evil grin and snicker-  Beakman and his hatchmate, Lester, both have the same shape.  I like Beakman over Lester, though.  Beakman collects goodies for me, too.  ;)

Byron is buff columbian x mottled.  He's more buff columbian, though.  Yes, his feet are nice and full.  I have a pic of them... I'll post it below.  The BC girl I have him paired with has no black in her hackles, but is a darker buff like him.  I have 2 pullets I am going to put in with him once they grow out some more and I see if they are worth keeping.  They are only about 20 weeks right now.  They are the lighter tan base but have black hackles.  I am using him to start my own BC flock.  He has the foot feathering, fluff and size I want in my MFs.

This one is a more natural stance for Byron.  It's an old one - and it shows Lester!
