You might lift her from the nest and check her abdomen for an egg.

She might be having difficulty passing an egg.

Use the search space at the top of the page and query egg bound.

Hopefully someone else will chime in on your cochin hen.    You can also go to the threads on Raising Backyard Chickens for the emergencies/diseases/   thread and seek advice there also.

Thanks for replying and I hope that is the case.  She just looks so sad compared to the white Cochin who already has that "double-breasted" look with the crease down the middle.  I will keep an eye on her for the next week and if I don't see improvement, I'll move her to a cage of younger chicks and see if I can get her going better.

She is outside with a foster mom and 11 other chicks.  They are in a large run style coop that sits on the ground.  I have it under cover, but they get sun and fresh air and have plenty of room to run around.  I'm going to try and get photos of the 2 today and I will post those.

Anybody know what the cross of a golden laced hen over a mottled roo would look like when it matures. I got one cross of this in my last hatch about a week ago. His feathers are coming in black.

my understanding is that both color patterns require 2 copies of the gene to show up, so you'll likely get a solid black i think.
