Pigeons in Winter

Wow, what a great story Hokum! Just loved it and just FYI, I just found out yesterday that my daughter is having her 1st child which made your story even more touching to me. I hope I have some wonderful experiences like yours to share in the coming years.

We are in Alberta so it looks like I don't have to worry so much about the little pigeon being warm enough. I was thinking I'd have to bring him in and put him in a cage on the really cold days. We bought supplies for the coop today including insulation so that should be sufficient along with the light bulb for sure. He will be alone, for now anyway, so I thought the light bulb would be the equivalent of having another bird or birds with him for warmth. We may find we are overdoing it since you said you don't have heat for yours. However, while he is having to try and recuperate from this injury I think we should leave the bulb on, eh? Especially since he won't be able to fly at all right now. I like all of your idea's and really appreciate the help. I don't even know what size a feed bag is so will have to look into that as it sounds like a great idea for the nest box. Maybe it's about the size of a potato sack?

That's so neat that you were able to heal your Granddaughter's bird, Pipper, with crazy glue! lol I've never heard of that before. I'm so glad you tried to help him and I can just imagine how happy your Granddaughter was! The bird I found has an injury to the top and underneath of his right wing up towards the top of it. He's still holding it down lower than the left wing so I don't know if it will ever heal to the point of being able to fly but it does seem to be a bit better the last couple of days. If he makes it I'd like to get another pigeon for sure so that he has company. I'm just learning about pigeons etc. now so this is all new to me. I haven't even gotten to the point of finding out about training them yet since it's only been about a week since I found "Ducky" but I do intend to look into all of that too. I'm finding it all so interesting but your story has, by far, been the best!

Here's where Ducky resides right now. (In a cage in the house)
