Hi all, im hoping that you arent caught up in the devastating fires in LA etc, i really feel for the poor people who are.
Fish Killer is caught up and its really a sad situation, is anyone else close to the fire????

Hi, Bantymum, they have evacuated more than a MILLION people, the biggest evacuation since the Civil War. I don't think many have access to a computer. I hope and pray that everyone is okay, and can make it out safely with all of their pets. What a disaster.

We aren't really close to the fire, but we are finding our cars covered in ash every morning. Sunday I had to drive from San Diego to Los Angeles and had to pull over to the side of the freeway and park for a while as the smoke (never saw flames) was so thick you couldn't see. Where we live, all school sports have been cancelled due to poor air quality. My girls are working with Red Cross getting items ready for families that have been evacuated or displaced. My brother was evacuated Sunday evening and has not been allowed back to his home since.

I'm on the East Coast and not directly affected by the fires.
I made the comment a few days ago that I am very fortunate to live in an area that is not subjected to forest fires, tornadoes, blizzards, (although I do love snow), extreme winter/summer temps, or hurricanes.
We do occasionally have rain and wind from hurricanes on the coast, and we have had an extremely hot and dry summer, but nothing really too severe.
(We broke the record this year for most days above 90)
Our summertime means 90's but lack of rain has made it worse this year. Our winters are usually very mild and hardly any snow. other than a few flurries.
Everytime I see a "weather" disaster, my heart goes out to the people caught up in it.
We never really think about how fortunate we are until we look at someone else's situation.

I'm really worried about my brother in San Diego area. We haven't heard anything from him.

At the same time my poor old dad is dying in a Fla hospital! I've gotta fly down there in the next day or so. Yikes.

We live in a potential wildfire area and have discussed what we would do with our chickens if a fire approached. We couldn't easily evacuate them on short notice, so we've talked about setting them free. On the one hand they wouldn't be trapped inside a burning coop, but on the other hand they still could get burned in the fire or be lost or eaten by predators. Anybody else have ideas on the best approach?

I grew up in San Diego.....This time of year is crazy. If you smell smoke you try not to go into panick mode. The winds are crazy and the fires go out of control very quickly. Until the winds die down it will be impossible to fight the fires. Keep them in your prayers.

Luna....you can go to the new channels websites from San Diego and find alot of info.....

I have been praying so hard for the winds to die down..so scarey for those there. I have on sister there and her home is currently 2 hills away from the fire.....her escape plan is set.............and hopinig and praying it will stop....
