male duck attacking...

I have three orphan ducks that I raised since last fall. They are free range and come and go as they please from the barn. My problem is that I also have free range hens that the male duck will attack. It almost seems like he tries to mate with him as he tries to climb on top of them like does with the two female ducks.... What is his problem? can he hurt my hens...they are getting a little spooked by him and won't come near the barn now. Will this stop on it's own. Any suggestion would be great.

Yes he can and will hurt your chickens very badly! Get him some females and this problem should stop, sometimes it doesn't.
If it doesn't don't let them free-range together AT ALL.

My male Pekin does the same thing. I can't let him around my hens because he immediately starts chasing them. The hens are penned up and he is free, and even then he paces along their enclosure and tries to reach his head through to grab them. He's really quite an ***! Good thing he's so adorable. I'm really really hoping our new orphan duckling is a female.

I hope its a female too! Then you won't have a drake issue, plus you'll get eggs! Sometimes with little ducklings inside!
