What would you take with you?

So, I was listening to the radio today, and they were talking about the SOCAL fires--and not until today had I fully contemplated how much I don't want to live down there. I had been thinking about moving down to San Diego to live with my brother to finish grad school...yes, anyhow--the broadcaster asked, "If someone knocked on your door and told you that you must evacuate within three minutes, what would you take?"

My first thought: OH NO! I can't round up my chickens in three minutes!

At that point, I ran outside and grabbed Tiberius, brought her in, and started petting her. (I feel really silly, but *sniff* I'm among friends!) I was in tears because I realized that if they were free-ranging, there would be absolutely no way to get them all. The horses, cats, and dogs, we could all load up, but not my chicky-doodles.

At this point, I realized that I was being utterly stupid, and if there was a fire anywhere my house, there was no way that I would have my chickens free-ranging, and they would be in their run, if not sent to relatives in a safer area, LOL!

Anyhow, so I thought, what would I take with me if all my animals were safe? Some people were mentioning photo albums, but honestly, all mine are digital!

Then I realized: I really don't care! I have nothing that I care that much about as long as my family and animals are safe. (At least, I can't think of anything!)

So--what would y'all take with you? (Provided that all your photo albums are digitalized!!) :-D

If my animals were safe and my family too, I'd probably just pick up the CPU tower and leave. I have tons of stuff, some that's irreplacable, but I could ditch it all in a moment of preservation. It's just not that important to me.

Thanks after reading your post, I realized I have nothing important in house, have a box at bank with birth certificates and social security cards and couple of kids savings bonds(used to be in a lock box) so now I dont need to grab that. I guess would take computer, and I do have pictures of grandparents/parents that are framed and hanging on walls.

My husband, kids, and my portrait of my mother who passed away when I was 20. I'd have a really hard time leaving my girls though. I would probably throw my few favorites in the back of the SUV.

First, I would be watching the news and have all my animals at a safe place (lined up way in advance as a just-in-case), I have all pics in totes, anyway, just throw them in the car. Then meds, bare necessity clothing, cpu, all check books, and copies of all bills (so I'd have the account #'s, etc, for keeping up with bills while living in a motel). Especially insurance info. And my address book with all phone #'s and contact info for family and friends. If I lived in the Santa Anna winds area, I would have everything I needed in quick to grab containers stacked in an area or room close to the door closest to the vehicle I would drive every time the wind began to blow.

I learned a lot from hurricanes!

UUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM....................................................... WOW!! I'm stumped on this one. I would TRY and get all of my animals in my room including my 19 chicks and 12 eggs in the incubator. If I still had time then I would grab my chickens and put them in a big blue container that is by the chicken coop. More importantly I would grab my dog, which I guess that counts for animals. I really don't know, I would try and get all the living things first, then other stuff.

I was thinking about this earlier, and I actually had a NIGHTMARE about this a few nights ago, that my neighborhood caught on fire and i had to get out in like 2 mins.
I would throw my rats into their small extra cage, put all the chicks in a cardboard box or something because their tank is SO HEAVY (luckily all my adult chickens are at my friend Alyssas house, 15 mins away) then I'd attempt to get my parrotlet into his travel cage which probably wouldnt work. I have a feeling I'd have to leave him.

Then if I had time I'd unhook my computer so that I just had the big box, leave the monitor and everything, and then RUN LIKE HELL (er, drive like hell)
