I have two new babies, about a week old, that dont really hold their wings up. They do sort of stick out at the tips of the wings. I have heard of this with ducks but does it happen with turkeys?

I have never seen it in turkeys, only waterfowl but I guess it's possible. In waterfowl one of the causes is feeding to high protein. harp states they feed high protein from hatch to processing so that may be a factor.

From what I have seen the wings held low means stress, to hot, new brooder, not enough protein. Since you said you just got them try a proper diet and let us know.

It's just the feathers growing in, you can see in the last pic it's how the poult holds it's wing. They are still growing in, see what it does when it fully feathers in . Like I said I have never seen any of ours with an angel wing or seen pics of an older turkey with it, but I'm sure you can do a search on the web and find one.

Here is the defination of Angel Wing provided by Wikipedia:

Here is the first line:
Angel Wing also known as Slipped Wing, crooked wing, or drooped wing is a disease that affects waterfowl, primarily geese and ducks, in which the last joint of the wing is twisted with the wing feathers point out, instead of laying against the body.

Key words would be last joint of the wing, there are 3 sections of the wing. Also this disease affects waterfowl.

very few of our poults have them

If you have this can you post pictures. In the thousands of poults that we have hatched out I have never seen angel wing in turkeys. We also raise ducks and have seen this in them. I have seen the drop wing and as they grow older it disappears. Have you seen the same thing or do yours keep this problem?

We had a simular event this year with two red bourbons. They start off looking like angle wing but the grew out of it.

As far as I can tell the primaries grew much faster then the secondary feather. Once the secondary feather started to grow the appearance of angle wing went away.

If you gently feel along the leading edge of the wing sometime you can feel the last joint at a bit if an angle, that depends on how advance it is.

Sorry I have been so stupid busy to come back and post a picture, but here is one blurry one. It is like the last "joint" pokes out. Its like that on both Benjamin and Debbie. Im not sure of what they were eating so it really made me question this.

And two more of my ridiculously adorable babies. They are Bourbon Reds.

Mmm, hmmm, interesting, that second part. I had a feeling it might be this, too. Just that different parts of the wing feathers grow at different rates.
