I sat here debating with myself,,, should I post this? Where should I post this? Hmmmmmmm ahhh heck why not lol!

This evening after it cooled off and the sun was going down my feathered children starting wending their way to their favorite sleeping perches and places. One of the favorite places being my big old Mulberry tree in the front yard right next to the porch and coop. They can hop up on the small chain link kennel and the up into the tree, or onto the unused old picnic table and into the tree. A dear friend of mine, in her 80's stopped by with a friend of hers who was just dying to see some chickens. The friend hadn't held a chicken since she was little girl in the panhandle of TX, that was about 70 years ago.
We were in the front yard and I was thinking about which one she might like to hold and I was thinking of little Cheepers or Charlotte, or even a duck,, when Nugget walks by. She was just so amazed at Nugget's size and sweet temperment, she was feeding him french fries so of course he was on his best behavior.
We sat in some plastic chairs by the porch, near but not under the tree, for obvious reasons, to me anyway. About that time 4 birds walk by, hop up on the kennel and into the tree they go. The lady was very interested in why they were in the tree so we walked over and looking up you could count no less than 15 fuzzy butts of different colors up there. She went on about how when she was little the hens all lived in the coop with their rooster, and they never got up in the trees. So of course these had to be a different kind of chicken! I tried to tell her that no, they just liked being in the tree, she wasn't buying that. So I leaned over really close and told her that she couldn't tell anyone, but yes, those were very special chickens that I was breeding,, and I didn't want anyone knowing about them yet. They are New Mexico Tree Chickens,, they live in trees so they are safe from coyotes!
I really thought my friends friend would realize I was joking but she didn't and she left believing I was trying to breed chickens that live in trees. I kind of felt guilty, but she just really wanted to know that she knew about something special that no one else knew about,, so I let her believe.
I'm just glad she didn't ask how I get Nugget up into a tree,,

Why would it be? You just brought joy to a sweet old lady. I hope when I'm that age I get humored instead of being comsidered batty. (actually, can we make that arrangement at THIS age?)

Thank you, the way I am I just can hear my grandma spinning in the ground right now thinking I was making fun of an elderly person. I would never do that, it seemed harmless enough, it's just me. She's happy, she enjoyed her visit, she held several chickens, wondered about all my broody ducks and chickens, though my roosters were all special, suggested I put Popcorn in a pot because he's a jerk,, he is a jerk! I really enjoyed her!

I forgot one funny incident though; she almost whacked my Pudster with a rake, she thought he was after the chickens. I had to explain he's the guard cat and protects them. She told me how her daddy would have handled a cat in the chicken yard,,,,, I hugged Pudster!

When you finish developing this breed, can you ship some chicks to me, please? They sound so wonderful!
