A short, barky roar.
After hearing the different ones on YouTube, I am convinced that's what I heard. Sounded just like the one I posted, but there was more than one. That's what made us think a litter of kittens. It was chilling, to say the least! Even more so since I know what it was!

I WAS trying to describe the scream when i said roar HOWEVER it dose sound like you know more than me about them. They are few and far between here and I have never personally encountered one.
