what is the better brand of layer feed? I've been using the rural king brand. I found the purinia brand at the local feed store, and its cheaper. Anybody know about it?

I have used only purnia ever since I got my chicks in dec. I have had no problems so far. It seems to be good feed. I use Layena pellets.

Depends if you want animal protein in the feed (which I do) or you want a vegetarian feed. Purina has better quality control than whoever makes Dumor, it seems, but is vegetarian in their Layena. I've seen so many complaints about the feed at TSC, whether it's how they store it or what, I dont know. I won't buy anything at TSC anymore anyway and have never used their feed.

I like Tucker Milling, ADM Alliance Pen Pals and Faithway Feeds, all brands that the co-op sells here.

I know I read here that Purina makes Dumor feed, is it or isn't it true?? Just seems funny that so many love Purina & hate TSC Dumor. Purina Mills is not the maker of regular Purina Dog Food from the grocery store, but does make dog & cat food.

I have always used Blue Seal and I love it. (so do the chicks/hens

Agreed -- I have only used the Blue Seal brand. Works well -- chickens are healthy and happy and poo isn't overly excessive or smelly. I am currently using their Grower mixed in with their Organic Layer. My chickens are at an awkward almost laying stage so I am weaning them onto the new food.

I've used the ADM Pen Pals Eggmaker feed for mine since the beginning and have had no problems. ALL of the eggs are jumbos and the girls are very healthy. Of course they get greens every day and that might help too.
