An apron made from mens ties and a cumberbund that I picked up at the resale store and below is my first attempt at silk dying some eggs.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's a chicken saddle and what's it used for? lol - I really have no clue!

It protects the hens from the rooster's toenails when mating, especially when the hen is molting and already missing feathers on her back and sides.

That saddle thing makes perfect sense now! I didn't have roosters around long enough to realize the injuries but I know that one of mine made the mistake of attacking my 285 pound husband!!  And not just once ~ needless to say, we had a nice meal after getting over the whole thing.

You're very welcome. Several of my hens wear saddles on occasion. Here is a picture for you-the Orps have to have "flank flaps" added to their saddles (I redesigned some I had on hand) since normal saddles don't cover the area that is in danger well enough. My Blue Orp rooster is about 13-14 lb so can damage the flank area if it's not protected:

I am making a chicken coop at the moment. Then i am going to weave a purse, then change my dad's pants into  a pair of shorts bc they are badly ripped.

These came out BEAUTIFUL! The tie apron was a great find!

A trick I learned for hanging them - Loop-tie a piece of fancy thread around half a toothpick and drop it in the hole - it will turn itself so that it is 'stuck' inside.

what a great idea on the Apron.  Would never in a million years think of using those 2 things to make an apron.   Did you come up with the idea or did u see it some place else?

Great job on your eggs. I have not done any as of yet.  I am thinking of doing a few here and there so I will be ready for next year. I am wanting to put a shellac coating on them to preserve them better and hopefully help protect them as well.

Well, right now we are in the process of finishing up a new coop area for my Silkies so I can get them out of the area they are in now.  I am going to take that area they were in and use it as a grow out area. Sense it will have a small run and they can go inside the barn run to where the water, food, nest boxes ect will be at.  I was hoping to finish it today but we ended up planting our garden and  helping out our neighbor with hers as well.  And she did the same with us.  Went so much fast that way too.

 So far we have the run finished and hubby found them a feed trough he wanted to add for them, and make a platform for their water so it does not get all muddy when they go and get a drink.

 I still need to get it painted outside, and add shaving or hay inside, nest boxes, and I also want to lay down some stick down tile or a whole sheet of linoleum to make cleaning easier.  We are using a wooded shipping crate that we got for free and it still has the plastic inside it. I am thinking of just leaving it in there to make it easy to sweep out. Its even up the walls.

 But at the same time I want to paint it a nice color in there to brighten it up a bit. Guess I will figure it out as I go.

I will see if I can get pics taken tomorrow if I can remember to take my phone outside with us when we work.

I saw some dresses, skirts and halter tops made from ties online, but had no intention of doing any of that when I went looking for ties at the resale store.  BUT the resale store had a couple of cumberbunds and when I saw them the magic just happened. It is way prettier in person than in the picture. :)

On my eggs I use rub-on's, stickers, temp tatto's, Bindi's and on the tie-died looking one, that is the skin from a soapbox derby section of Hobby Looby.

To hang my eggs I use some clear jewlry thread along with bead caps and beads to finish them off. On a couple of the eggs I used a clear gold or blue nail polish, it really gave them an "antique-ish " look.
