I have 5, five week old chicks (or are they pullets?) and I just put them outside today. Highs will be in the 90's and lows around 60f. I have a heat lamp in the hen house keeping it around 75ish in the periphery. There are two 10"X10" open metal clothed windows near the top of the henhouse to allow for air flow. Should they be alright? They have all of their adult feathers already and with the heat lamp in the henhouse I thought they would be ok. Run is almost done should have the whole thing finished by Sunday and I will post pictures. I am new to this site and new to chicken keeping so any help would be great.

I guess I should also mention our small flock consists of an Anmericauna, Barred Rock, SL Wyndotte, Houdan and a White Crested Polish. I live in the Pacific NW and this is a brand new venture for our family.

Thanks!

Another newbie here, but I put mine out at 5 weeks after having them spend afternoons till dusk in a chicken tractor and we're colder at night, close to 57 or 60. They seem to be fine (execpt for the major freak out they went through tonight but that's another story/question to be posted)

Working on our run too, look forward to your pictures....have forgotten to take any so far.

I put my 51/2 week olds out yesterday , I live in Southern California . I am worried weather they can deal with the 90+ degree temps during the day. I have light on them at night, its gets down to about 65.

Two days outside and they are doing just fine. The heat during the day is going to be more of an issue than the cold at night I think.

I just moved 46 chicks (yes, way tooooo many) outside yesterday. I am in NW Georgia with temps in the low 90s day time...maybe 75 at night. All my guys are 2 1/2 weeks old. I moved them to a 6' x 8' coop, left a small wattage light in there with them last night and all are GREAT this AM. I unplug the lamp during the day to keep it a bit cooler. ZGood luck to everyone!!

I live in Florida. I let my chicks out at a week old. I let them come out on their own. First one came out and little by little they all ventured out. Now they are almost 3 weeks old and can hardly wait for me to open their pop door in the morning and now it's a mad scramble to get outside. 90's daytime and mid 70's at night.

Our dozen chickens have been out for a week and a few days, since they were 4 weeks old. No light on at night this week, and it is in the 50s at night. Several of them want to sleep next to the window, which it the coldest place in the coop! So much for "they want to be warm!"

I'm more worried about the heat during the day.

Toledo Ohio:
We put our chicks outside during the day at 3 days old when temperatures were around 80º. At night, they stayed in their brooder box in the garage with a light on them.

At 3 weeks old, we stopped with the light at night but still kept them in the brooder box in the garage.

Now 4 weeks old, they spent the night in their "Big Girl" house for the first time last night. Low was about 65º. They were fine.

This morning they were chirping and eagerly awaiting for the door to open so they could play in their yard.

Hi & welcome to the list!! I am in the PNW also, where are you? I'm in Pierce County.

I am pretty new to the lsit as well, mine are 14 weeks now. But they've been outside for about 6 weeks with no problem and it was cooler then. I only kept them in longer since their coop/run wasn't ready yet! Have fun with them!

First night out for my girls too! nearly 5 weeks (monday officially 5 weeks) It is 85 degrees outside. They wanted a night light and settled down. I plan to check on them a few times.
