How do you transport chickens?

I ended up up dog carriers as well! Lined the bottom with doggie potty pads & put pine on top. Worked very well.

Well yesterday was the day and all went well!!
We took our birds into be butchered and was good. we goto an gov't inspected facility and inspector was good with the way we transported flock.
Couple notes
-transport must be right size, and birds must be snuggish, too much room and they will roll around and become quite the mess
-air flow a must, inspector gave another grower a warning not to use his utility trailer too much room and not enough airflow
So that was transport, we actually travelled over two hours and birds looked good, it was early and cool morning, we did keep them covered so that they were a bit calmer, with a tarp.

that was our first try at these birds, all in all was a positive go!!!

Looks good, Gowander!
Glad for your success.
We butchered last Monday, traveling an hour up North. We had to, as our local butcher has been oddly MIA for the past 3 weeks.
Went to a Mennonite farm we found online and the family was just wonderful.
Our next batch of meaties is due for butchering in 3 weeks and will definitely go back to the same farm.

Hello all,

I would like some advise on this topic. We have a mixed flock of seven birds, six hens and a rooster. In a couple weeks we are going on a two plus week trip to an isolated area on the NC coast. The property is literally an island. We are taking our cats and dread making someone take care of the girls for two plus weeks. We are considering taking them with us. Its a six hour drive. We think that they would enjoy it while they are down there, but don't want the travel to stress them out. What are the other dangers? Could they be exposed to disease by taking them out of their normal environment? There are no poultry farms in the are we are going, but there is an abundance of wild bird life. Can anyone give us some pros and cons? Thanks!!
