Need help sexing silkies

Thread Starter

I have several silkies that are just coming up on 2 months old, I want to keep a few, but I don't want to keep ALL of them, so I would like to know what sex they are.  Is there any way at this age to start guessing gender?  I am new to them and so I have NO idea.  I can tell the adults apart no problem.  Any suggestions would be great.  At this point I have several that are much bigger boned, and much bigger all around than their hatchmates.  Does this have anything to do with it?  Thanks in advance.

The only way to be sure with silkie genders is to wait until they crow or lay an egg.  You can start to tell them apart at 4,5 or 6 months of age.  But until the boys crow or the ladies lay an egg, you won't know for sure.  Theres been plenty of people whose hens end up being roosters and the other way around.  Its frustrating, I know.
