Do all roosters flog? Mine just flogged my 3 year old.

I agree with many on here that you should always let your roos and chickens know who's the boss. Some hens can be a bit aggressive. I am careful about making livestock pets. When we first started raising day old calves, we made them pets and played with them. Guess what, when they weigh 1000 pounds they still want to play and turn aggressive. It's down right dangerous. Same with a real cute appaloosa orphaned colt that was raised like a dog. We bought him at 1 year old and he was a monster. Bit any chance he got, pushed you around, you could never turn your back on him. Not cute! Had to sell him. My kids hate horses because of that experience. Even my dog had to learn that I am boss. Otherwise....the animals take over the farm!!!

Showing them who's boss does not mean mistreating them.

This was such an informative thread. Im new to chickens and just got my first Roo. He is an Australorp. He's still quite young and I am sooo hoping that he behaves himself. Right now he is very timid of us and the hens.
I know this family would never put up with a roo with attitude like that toward any of us and definately not towards a child. I say.. Dinner!!

Hug your baby for us.. Your story made me soo sad for her.

I'm really sorry that this happened to your daughter. It really had to be traumatic for her. Poor kid.

I just rehomed a roo that was dropping his wing to me and coming at me sideways constantly. He was 6 months old. Had never actually attacked me but I could see it coming. I wasn't going to put up with that crap from him or any other roo. And definitely not if he would have attacked my child.

I have my sweet gentle EE roo in with my ladies now and even though I miss my handsome Barred Rock, it was time for him to go!

Small kids and roosters should not be together, especially standard size roosters. All roosters do not flog people. I don't keep any rooster who has flogged even once. He's just a stallion or bull in a smaller package, but a package that can do serious damage to a toddler.
