Proper dosage for Terramycin?

I have the soluble type, but the instructions aren't very clear on the back.

Can anyone tell me the proper dosage for a gallon of water? And if you had normal measurments like Tbsp or tsp, that'd be great. Thanks!
 
Just a general antibiotic for my broiler chicks. I've lost a couple recently, and want to do it as a precaution. I was hoping to avoid antibiotics, but I don't want to lose anymore.
 
An average loss of chicks is 5%. It just happens. If you are just going to give antibiotics "just because" it's a really bad idea. It causes 'super' infections and diseases to develop. If you knew what killed them it would be a different story. Terramycin has been around a long time and doesn't work well anymore.

Maybe someone else can help.
 
I understand about misusing antibiotics, but I'd like to treat them because one of them was looking unthrifty this morning. They're not on medicated feed.

I'd just like to have the dosage info.
 
Lets try to find out why they are not well.

How old are they?
What is the brooder temp? On the floor
What are their symptoms?
Are they inside or outside?
I'm assuming you are feeding starter crumbles.
 
They are just over a week old. They shipped last Wednesday (July 22nd) from McMurray. They arrived Thursday (the 23rd) afternoon. They are on non-medicated starter crumbles. They are inside the barn, light is on at night, off during the day (it gets too hot with it on in the day). I don't have a thermometer, but it is definitely warm enough but not too warm.

Last Friday I lost one pretty suddenly. Friday night another one was unthrifty. Saturday morning it was dead. They all seemed ok after that, until yesterday evening. One chick was rocked back onto his hocks, not standing. He could take one or two steps if I nudged him. His wings were splayed to the sides. This morning, one is dead, but the sick one is still there. So, either the sick one from last night died and another one got the same exact symptoms, or a seemingly-well chick dropped dead.
 
You really need to get a thermometer. At a week old they can't regulate their body temperature and are very fragile. Do you have one that you can lay on their floor? Even a small outdoor one should do until you can get one. Is everyone eating and drinking? Anyone have poopy butts? Are they wandering around cheeping and happy or huddled in one area?

What is the temp on the floor of the brooder?

I don't use thermometers anymore, I just go by how the chicks are acting. I know how they act when they're cold, and I know how they act when they're hot. These chicks aren't huddled, and they're not too spread away from the light. They're walking all around and eating and drinking. I've seen one or two poopy butts. Everyone seems fine this morning, with the exception of the one that's not walking properly. I'll see if I have an thermometer somewhere just to double check.


I've used terramycin in the past for respiratory issues. Can anyone please tell me the proper dosage for it per gallon of water?
