At what age do silkies start to lay????

Pics
I got 7 silkies in April. 1 died in July. 1 started laying consistently in August everyday. Now mid-september we started getting about 4 per day. This morning a coyote killed 3,2 are ok, and 1 is missing probably dragged off by the coyote. Searching for 1 i checked the hen house, not in there but there was an egg that I took out. I locked the 2 left in the hen house to keep safe since that darn coyote was circling my yard. When I went out a few hours later to let the hens out, there were 8 eggs in the nesting box, 7 were still warm. So I had 9 eggs in 1 day. I guess the coyote scared the eggs right out of the 2 girls.

My oldest girl just started laying at 4 months. She's not quite regular yet, but she's trying!

My seven silkies just turned 3 months old, so no laying yet. However, one feisty handsome youngster started crowing at 2 1/2 months. He is now so full of himself, he crows until he's hoarse. Another sweetheart answers everything I say to her - in chicken, of course - but with different tones, pitches, and inflections for every comment. I LOVE SILKIES !!!! They should have a TV show !!!

I am trying to figure out where or how I ended up with a red paint chick it started with one red don but the more it grow the more red spot it gets! my friend said its not a defect its rare but what the heck makes this??? I can barely find any photos!

Hi, as this is the ‘Silkie thread’ I thought I’d add my own experience.
My Silkies laid their first egg at 6.5 months old.
I have two pullets and one rooster and they free range in my garden, going into the coop at dusk.
I think they may have started earlier but a batch of eggs we hatched at the very end of June last year had five cockerels and two pullets. We rehomed four of the cockerels a month ago as we didn’t want the girls stressed out with all the guys! Just a week later we got our first egg.
They get organic layers pellets, a handful of sunflower seeds and oyster grit. As it’s winter and there are no bugs around they also get a handful of mealworms for protein.
I don’t make treats hard work, I have a small kitchen chopper and anything tasty left over is grated small for them.
I trained my dogs not to chase them as I believe a stress free environment is important and a happy hen lays more eggs.
Silkies don’t have a reputation for laying eggs, they’re small but very tasty.
