I have the same problem though the coon has so far outsmarted me... I've declared war!    I'm not a supporter of catch and release.. you're just transferring the problem to someone else's coop.  Shoot it or find someone who will do it for you and eliminate the problem for everyone.   There is no shortage of coons!

I think those coons might enjoy a brisk swim in the pond.

Now Now. swimmig will just get them mad and insecure.  Make sure they feel wanted and safe in the water by leaving them in the trap.  Then they will just lay quietly for you "playing" dead as you take them out.   We havent seen coons here in the 40 yrs we lived here until I started building the coop.  I got some frosting bucket from the local grocery store bakery and they came to help clean them out.  Just saw fresh tracks in the snow leading to my nesting boxes.  guess we will have to put the lock on and hope he doesn't find the key hanging on the side of the coop.

All most forgot.  My sick bird is starting to feel better I think.  she has started standing more and taking noursement.

Well these few days have been sooooooooooooooooo Agh - Well you know what our house is like.

The brain injured lad got offered a place in social housing - a lovely little bungalow overlooking the sea. You simply don;t get offered that kind of thing very often. The place he is in at the moment is a private let fully furnished. But the fellow ownt give him a tenancy contract and keeps comming and asking for things like the microwave back and of course Ds just gives it to him. So we were trying to get him to understand that the bungalow though its not as nice and is unfurnished it would be his for as long as he wanted. But then he just thought he would be put there and wouldn;t be allowed to move again??? All very complicated. Not sure I know what to do for the best. The lad is all stressed out and wont eat and says he doesn;t like the place and wont go there. But it is lovely compared to other places you get offered. He is will only get one other choice and then nothing else. The fellow who owns the place he is in could come back anytime and tell him he has 30 days to leave. Anyhow thought I would run this past you all and see what you guys thought. My Dd says he is a plonker and is round to see him and talk sence into the lad so she says? Dh and I just keep telling him he has to make the choice himself. but were hoping he comes to the right choice? I am of course torn because I like the place he is in as it is truely lovely and comfy. But it isn;t his, actually nothing in it is his not a cup or knife and fork. - All very worrying indeed. I also see loads of work ahead for us if he does take the place as it will need scrubbed out and furniture bought and carpets fitted etc. Not easy for us either way!

Oh well better go as I need to start T here and my coffee cup is empty.

Prayers with you on this one Oes.  Maybe you could get the guy to give him notice and force the issue?

It was an exciting morning at Paradise Found today.  We normally watch the weather while hubby eats his breakfast and I drink my coffee but today the cable was out due to the snow.  So I went to watch the nature channel outside the house.  It did not disappoint.  3 deer, but they were watching something.  Oh yeah I see them!  2 coyotes.  The same 2 coyotes I had decided were no threat to me or my birds were mousing in the field.  I have passed on real good shots with them because they do not seem aggressive.    Do I hear a big "duh" out there?   They are far away - say 800 to 900' from the house, the deer are closer - say about 150'.  But the dog HAS to go out.  Hunny let him out. 

Dog went to the front of the sunroom, 10' from house and stood there peeing.  Quicker than I could react, one coyote was running past the deer fast as he could, teeth barred and ears back.  I yelled "OH S**T HUNNY GET THE DOG I'LL GET THE GUN!"  Mark was already at the door and out.  I was close behind him.  The coyote had, by the time I got out, moved away and was now about 450' and in a safe to shoot spot.  I did.  Hit it but not lethal.  It rolled from the impact and took off running.  I've learned my lesson:  The only nonthreatening coyote is a cold, dead one.

This is what the coyotes look like around here, due to their being overpopulated.  This bugger was living in our haybarn (its open to the south), because it was so cold, AND living on our  barncats.  It took a long time to kill this thing, you can see the 22 shot we hit it with 2 weeks prior.  Poor thing, I did feel badly it had to live like this, but anything from the bush that takes up residence in the barns, or eats my livestock gets shot.  We have so many coons I actually caught 3 in a live trap at one time.  They were babies, and the other 2 were in the other trap.  We trapped and did away with 19 coons last summer.

okay this is what nightmares are made of.this animal is so scary looking to me.

he must have been so hungry and cold.no more suffering

My neighbor lost two pet cats to a coyote, I've only seen one once on our property, that was a couple years ago.

Good morning chicken wranglers

Of course the coons will gwet to go swimming when and if I catch them.And I always leave them in the trap.I would be afraid that thwey would get lost otherwise.I always leave them about a half inche to get their noses above the water line. Wouldn't want them to drown that would be toooo fasst.
