funny chicken sounds

The little Easter Egger pullet sounds like a telegraph machine. She beeps CONSTANTLY. Like she's reciting War and Peace in Morse Code. It is MADDENING, since she hasn't been admitted to the coop and is actually spending her nights in the kitchen. I'm about to drown the little critter.

Somebody please, tell me this is her baby voice and that she is about to grow out of it?

Well ... I can't tell you whether she will grow out of it or not ...

My babies peeped a lot and they stopped that. However, now they make all kinds of sounds. Some of which I enjoy (purring cockerels and beeping banty pullets) and some of which are not so great (LOUD bawk-bawking for no apparent reason).

NOTHING is as annoying to me as the runner duck who sits outside the dining room glass door and WACK-WACK-WACK!!!s all day, begging for food though. I'm ready to eat her. (But my dd would never forgive me, they were purchased as her own pets.)

p.s. ... don't ever believe that old myth abut a duck's quack not echoing!

Does she need a friend? If any of my either chicks or chickens get isolated they immediately start calling. Maybe earplugs would work until she can be with her chicken friends.

You know, I would LOVE for her to be with her chicken friends, and they get along wonderfully during the day but at night they fight if I try to put her in the Eglu with them. The big hen chases her (besides her there are only one Polish hen and a little Serama roo, who were here before her). She gets so frantic, and she runs to the fence of the run and says "Mommy, Mommy, save me!"

Should I just walk away and hope they get over it? I don't think Bebop will really hurt her, but she might hurt herself running away! She's a bit of a flighty little thing.

Regina, how did you introduce her to the existing flock? I have an eglu also & am thinking of getting a couple more chicks in the spring & was planning on just adding them at night...now you kinda got me worried...

I guess the first thing I did was to set her in her rabbit cage out in the yard where they could walk around her and sniff her out, for a while. Then I made them get back in the Eglu run and let her loose while they were penned. It really hasn't been much drama for them to accept her -- during the day. But she is such a hysteric! Such a drama queen! I almost can't blame them for not wanting to share sleeping space with her, she never shuts up. Of course it's worse now, because since she's been sleeping in the house, they're all jealous of each other. SHE now pecks at THEM when I show them any attention. She flies, not walks but flies over, jumps up on me and pecks at them.

So .... I left the porch door open at twilight today, and all 3 came up. LoverBoy and Bebop snuggled together in one spot, and Crow first tried to come in the kitchen window but I wouldn't let her, I closed it more, then she snuggled down by herself near the window. Took a break from cooking for tomorrow, came out and picked up Bebop (trying to combat the "we've been supplanted!" jealousy), so Crow flew over in a fit, jumped on my head, on my computer, etc., wouldn't be still. So....

I picked up Crow and put her in the Eglu and shut the door. In an hour or so I will go out there, see if she's more or less quieted down, and if so I will put the others in with her -- and open the door (leaving the run locked). It's not supposed to get very cold at all tonight, and I want her to be able to escape when they wake up in the morning.

*sigh* these high-maintenance chiquitas...... But I love them!

I have a little handicapped Rhode Island Red (she has a hard knot under her wing that makes her a little crooked) and she beeps constantly and she is about 5 months old. She whines occassionally to be petted but she beeps otherwise,a ll the time, I think it comforts her to hear herself do it. I don't mind, in fact the chicken noises are hilarious to me, the honking, and clucking and cackling they do, I love it, they are very communicative!! Good luck with yours and don't drown her!!
