Here’s the scoop. This guy that rents the house across the street from me moved in a couple of months ago and has a lab/shepherd mix dog. This dog is the sweetest dog I have ever encountered. Well, this guy (the jerk) is never home. He will leave for two or three days at a time and the dog is always left to his own devices. (When he left the last time I walked over to his house and checked to see if he left food and water for the dog – he didn’t)

Being the dog person that I am, I have been feeding him and making sure he has access to water. I also let him in the house when the weather is bad because he has no shelter so he now spends all his time at my house.

When the jerk does show up the dog chases him down the road when he leaves, and he has started chasing me when I leave for work in the mornings. I have to circle my block to out run him so he doesn’t get to the busy highway where I’m afraid he’ll be killed. I’ve told this jerk twice that he is now chasing every vehicle that passes by and he didn’t care.

Anyway, I know a family who wants this dog. I don’t want to ask the jerk if I can have him because I know he’ll say no. Yes – I want to dognap the dog and give him a good home before he gets killed by a car or euthanized at our local shelter! What would you do? I will have no problem lying to this jerk when he comes over and asks if I’ve seen his dog!

I would ask him anyways if he really cares for his dog... then tell him you saw it get hit by a car and it ran off.... while in the mean time it has relocated. Or call animal services on him.

If the family who wants the dog lives far enough away so the dog won't come back, I say let them come and take it. It's really crappy the way some people neglect their animals. This guy doesn't deserve to have a pet.

I know he would come and ask if I've seen the dog, but I don't think he'll be upset about the dog being gone. He'll be rehomed this weekend.

I hope not!

That makes me soo mad. Why get an animal if you have no intention to care for it. Seriously I would like to know what goes on in there heads. How can you abuse, neglect ,ignore etc. a living breathing animal with feelings. I get so upset when I see stray dogs or cats. Or when I hear about animal neglect. I say give that poor creature to a family who wants to love and care for him and let that man just wonder where he went.

I dont know your laws, but in MD all animals must have access to water and adiquate (-1 sp) shelter. So if your laws are the same call animal control, and have your friends adopt the dog when he is put up for adoption.
