NY chicken lover!!!! - Page 1016

I'm not going to be able to send him to cornell.  I did not know to keep the body cold.

Captain Morgan, my beta roo, has evidently declared war on the red bottom of the waterer in the run (one of those one-gallon cheapie TSC jobs).  When I go out there to change the water, he'll come stand nearby and eye the thing suspiciously.  If I hold it out to him (because I think it's funny), he'll run up to it, looking half-terrified, and either hurriedly peck it or jump up and take a swing at it with a foot.  He then beats a hasty retreat, occasionally helped along by my yelling "BOO!" at him.  He also dislikes my pink plastic water bucket.  He has no interest in any other color bucket, just the pink one.  Maybe he just prefers cool colors. 

The duckehs are going to be booted out to the playroom half of the coop this weekend (blockaded from the chooks for the moment), as, at 6 1/2 weeks old, they're getting huge.  They'll get out of the pen and explore the garage while I hook them up with clean feed and water and shavings.  Unlike the chickens, though, they're easy to herd, as they move en masse and don't scatter in every direction at once. 

I had nine dozen eggs in the fridge, and unloaded them all today (well, Alan did) on my usual suspects.  Go, girls! 

Evening all.  I came home to poop on top of the waterer in the terrorist brooding box.  Looks like someone got some air and made it up there.  I asked who did it but not one of them would fess up.  Guess I have to put the screen on top of the box.  I knew they were up to something.  Sort of how a mom knows when her kids are up to something.  I guess its time I figure out and escapeproof out jail as well so the inmates can have some yard time.  They need some space to run and some grass to run on (not to mention something other than me to terrorize).  At 3 weeks old I can see that some of the suspect boys are showing roostery behaviour.  This group is going to be a handful! 

My tiny fluffballs of silk are growing nicely.  Introduced them to shavings in their box.  Had to show them it wasnt evil and then they started to play with it.  4 will go to their new home next week.  Setting eggs again on sunday.  Hoping my rooster has been a good boy to the girls and I get some babies. 

My diva hens are giving my some really nice eggs lately.  I thought at 2 that they might slow down but they havent.  Their eggs are now a large to xlarge size and look so perfect on some days.  I still think that one or two of them are freeloading but I will leave them be until the others slow down. 

Javagirl--sorry to hear of your loss.  I hope you get an answer from cornell.  Keep us posted.

My little easter hatch chicks are growing up so fast. Some of them are trying to roost! :)  It's funny how different batches of chicks have different personalities - my NYD and Vday chicks loved me from day 1 - the easter hatch chicks think I am a monster who wants to eat them. /sigh.
