NY chicken lover!!!! - Page 1040

Featherz--looks like squashed chick is a fiesty little thing!  I am happy for you and the chick!

Sachasmom--You have a full plate but God never gives us more than we can handle.  Bad Kitty cant help himself.  He was hardwired to hunt.  Besides, you know you would miss him.  Sorry about your hen dying.  I hope you finally got the coon that has been killing your cheeps.  There is a good thread on here on how to help an eggbound hen.  I had one and soaked her in warm water for a while and gently massaged her.  The egg finally came out and she has had no problems since.

Cass--Heres hoping that things start looking up.

Off to albany today to pick up my youngest from the airport.  She is coming home from college and we are excited to have her back.  My oldest daughter is going with me while the other half stays home to go get lumber for the coop and to cook a fabulous welcome home dinner for our daughter.  Number 2 daughter is in Oswego checking out that college as she wants to go there for zoology.  Dont ask.  Its been colder this week so the terrorists have been spending more time under the heat lamp.  However, as soon as the prison gate on top is moved, at least two are up on the top walking around.

Candling tomorrow and hoping that the majority (if not all) the 14 silkie eggs in the bator are fertile and growing.  I think the colder weather has snapped my wannnabe broody hen out of it.  She doesnt puff up and bawk any more when I open the door on the coop and take her egg.  I am hoping she will go broody later this spring and hatch out a few for me.

Have to mow the lawn today.  My silkies are having a rough time getting through the long grass!  lol  If it gets any longer, I will have to put those long marker poles on them so I can keep track of where they are.  gig.gif

Mom of 3 girls, 1 lab, 1 calico cat, 4 barred rocks, 4 wyandottes and 4 very spoiled blue silkies! Love my cheeps!

Annie-- Hope your 4H event goes well today.  DH is working and my brother is home from rochester so I'll be there in thought.

Featherz-- looks like that chick is giving you an ear full  smile.png

Cass and Sachasmom--  Hopefully things will get better for you today.

I just had to give 3 of my late hatchers a bath because they were sticky.  They are now back in the bator to dry and poof up.  Hope everyone has a good day.

Well I'm sure there are those who would like a NO crower.  My Blk Orps sound like they hurt themselves when they crow.  They sort of drop off and would not make it on Amer Idol.  Now my B. Maran has a nice crow as do the Dels.  More like the chicken crows one likes to hear in the morning.  I'm not sure I've heard the SFH roosters crow.  Which makes me wonder.  Are Swedish Flower hens roosters called Swedish Flower hens or Swedish Flower Roosters?

Thought I should take a second to say hi to everyone.    I've been lurking and reading as much as I can and I love it here so far.

Thank You!  I'm anxiously awaiting the delivery of my first chicks.  I'm going to start working on the coop (workshop renovation) as soon as it warms up a bit and stops snowing!  I'm still trying to decide if I should or shouldn't insulate the coop.  I've read about every thread I can find and am still on the fence teetering. barnie.gif

if it helps any, I didn't insulate any of mine. One even has an almost open top (covered with hardware cloth). Chickens all did fine for three winters now. =) (oh, and no heat lamps either).

That does help knowing what someone somewhat close does.  The plan at the moment is to have the coop at one end of the building in what was the bathroom, a run inside for winter and then the outside run.  Thanks.
