NY chicken lover!!!! - Page 1241

Hello all. I picked up 4- 3 month old pullets (Partridge Rocks) Monday. They are adjusting well. Even to the dogs watching them all day lol  Sunday night we got the 8x4 run hooked up to the main house/run. The girls figured out quite uickly how to use the little tunnel to get from one to another. They are using the pvc feeder I made easily. I am hopeful they will use the nipple waterer as easily when its up & running.  The 1st night I put them in the roost area but last night they tucked themselves on their own at dark. I just need to train them on how to close the door behind them.  They are not on the roosts at night but all cuddled in one of the nesting boxes. I figured when they get a little older they will start roosting?  I put a limb in the large run area and one gets on it to sit for a little while.

I am looking forward to eggs in the next month or 2 :)

Here is the main house with small run. The lattice work behind it is the 8x4 big run.

I can't come to the chickenstock onthe 26th, but if anyone wants to get some birds from me, I can bring them over since I'm only 10 minutes away.

I have started birds in Marans, Coronations, Blrws & Silver laced Wyandottes (a hen & pullet). Maybe a few Silkies.

My flock just met a snake. Everyone lived to tell a bout it, even the snake. I looked out the window and saw ALL of them looking at something intently. They rarely all do anything at the same time, usually only in their little group. So I went and looked intently, and someone bravely pecked toward the fence, and a snake twirled itself around and then I couldn't see it anymore. So we all went on to other things. I wonder what will happen the next time they meet a similar snake, after they have had time to think about it?

Funny you say that,

Mine had a run-in with a mouse on Sunday. They were all chasing after it and when it stopped and hid in the grass they were all pecking around looking for it. I'm curious as to what they would do if they came across it again. I'd be worried about the mouse biting them if one did manage to get a hold of it.

If you're still looking for a home for your ducks then you could bring them with you.  They'll fit right in at my house!

The coyotes were making a lot of racket when I got up this morning at 2am.  I don't hear them too often.  I would love to get a game cam to see what actually roams into my yard at night.

Princess, I think this group all goes out in their PJs. Who can stand to listen to complaining chickens during the time it takes to get dressed. I used to live in the city with neighbors close on either side, and a few times it was necessary to go out before getting formally dressed, and once my next to next-door neighbor said good morning. I told her she could not see me because I was invisible. She said OK. And that was way before chickens...
