as you can see in the pullet pics, Sumatra genes are quite dominant. I seem to have stumbled on a sex link. Or so I think. More hatching is needed to verify. 

California whites are supposed to be sex linked also, but only as far as feather sexing goes. I did notice that a few chicks had long hard feathers almost right out of the egg (like at one day). From what I can tell, those are probably the girls. Since they are part leghorn, I am sure I will be able to tell soon. Only have a few chicks, but that's just as well - my coops are full. 

I'll rehome the little guys along with the little guys from my last broody hatch.

  that pic was at 16 weeks. Not much different. Looks like a slightly larger splash Sumatra.

Well this sussex of mine is unrelenting so she's getting colored eggs. The rooster is a Lav Amer from Chickinstalker and the hens are EE's from a Amer hen so most of the chicks are coming out black.  I expect they are splits.   I do have a blue hen from the cross too. She just started laying.  My broodies don't do so well hatching but what can I do. They might get two chicks tops, but in all fairness not all the eggs are good either.

Hey Glass my flock meet a little garden snake last week he did not live to tell about it. They got some extra protein that day! It was kinda funny to watch it looked like some weird kind of football a in a little huttle chasing each other! Sorry little snake!

Just picked up some feed today. 200 pounds 2 months ago cost 38.00, today it was 47.00. I think I might have to downsize more than I would like to.

Where do most people get their feed. I get it at a feed mill in Vernon Center.

I get mine delivered free from agway. I pay $15 for starter/50 pounds, $13.25 for layer, so pretty pricey, but cheaper than TSC. I *wish* I could get it from a mill, but the closest mill to here is in Amsterdam and I can't fit enough in my car to make the trip worth it.
