Happy Weekend everyone!
Well, a bit of a new perspective. Today we got called for a "little visiter" (I mentioned we are foster/adoptive certified in a past post) who has a terminal illness. This little child fighting such a big battle seems to now put that 1200.00 water bill into perspective a little bit. We all have those moments where we seem to feel like all we're getting is lemons. At least we're able to make lemonade. My heart is heavy for this little one. It's time to put my big girl pants on and make this house a fun and joyful one. Laughter is the best medicine.
Checked on the ladies today, added more pine shavings, changed their water dish, fed them the dry feed and put a bit of diatomaceous earth down and a little bit on them as I've read winter can come with mite problems. I'm not sure how true that is, but I thought I'd try it anyways. I've seen a video where it's used (the food grade DE) in feed for the girls as well as dogs and cats to keep away worms. It's a dewormer. Our kitten was diagnosed with worms. Its common in kittens I guess, but it freaks me out. The vet said they'll take care of it next week. That the other animals won't get it because it's carried by a host. fleas. I mad at myself. I got a kitten from a lady who said it was 8 weeks old and I knew it sounded fishy. I took her to the vet right away and I suspected right. She was only around 4 weeks. Taken away from the mother too soon. I was miffed because while it was an elderly lady, The mother and babies were all gone. Only two kittens left and we only took one (should have taken the second one). The Vet told me we saved her. Wish we saved the other one. We had to feed her kitten milk every 3 hours or so for a while but when we got her, I had to bathe her in dish soap to get all the fleas out of her. I took a flea comb and got rid of them that way and just kept bathing her in dish soap once in a while. It had poop caked in her nails even at 4wks and something tells me there was more to that story. I can't imagine that poor woman living in her home LOADED with fleas! It had to be loaded with fleas if this little one had hundreds on her and she had the mother and more kittens besides the only two that were left. Anyways, I wondered if she'd had them. Her tummy was HUGE. Our dog and the other cat have taken her on as their own. Very cute but I was worried about them catching something. So far so good but I'm having them looked at as well.
Such is life. It doesn't always go the way we want it to be. The kitten is as cute as a button though.
I never would have thought we'd have two cats, a dog, 8 chickens and not only be foster or adoptive parents but have a miracle baby to boot. Life is certainly a journey filled with just as much joy and laughter as diversity.
I hope your all enjoying your weekend. I can't fathom what our winter is going to be. Lately I've been getting comments about how hard the winter is going to be this year and we're in the snow belt. It certainly will be interesting to see who's correct. The Farmers Almanac or those saying we're going to have El Nino bringing us a lighter winter. Hmmm. Anyone want to guess?
