FYI? Big Delores is an light Sussex I got from Marq as an adult. Not sure of her age but I've had her at least three seasons and she's the only one laying. Point? If you're considering getting some you might like them. I have no rooster but she seems content with the EE's and goes broody every year.
Anyone know how Marq is doing selling off her birds?
I've some postings on CL myself but I get the folks who don't want the roosters and I'm not going that route. Too I wonder who these folks are that don't want roosters. They just had a raid in Oneida I think of a trailer that had a bunch of animals in poor conditions. The news said they got some of the animals off CL.
Please folks if you find yourself slipping over the edge into becoming a "collector" ask for help. Don't let things get out of hand. If you need a hand send up a flare. I'm sure you can find someone who will give you a hand in trade of some kind.
I have no trouble giving roosters away to folks I know will eat them. (I have a guy who will take your roosters if you need them gone) Since I can't predict how many will hatch when I do hatch I also don't mind giving chicks away. I know there are folks who have more room than I do. When folks ask how many chickens I have I do round down but things ebb and flow here so it's hard to keep count.
One reason I post the sales that Country Max has on shavings is so folks can stock up like I do. They usually have a sale twice a year.
