They can vary in size. Unlike crested ducks where the trait is actually caused by a hole in the skull (which is why it's so dangerous to have female crested ducks with a drake and why it often causes neurological issues and death, and why you can't breed two crested ducks together without a lot of the embryos dying during incubation) the tufts are just caused by a ball of skin on the top of the head. The larger the ball, the larger the tuft
For example Lacie, my very first roman tufted, doesn't have a very large tuft:
But when she breeds with the little gander I have with the larger tuft, I'm hoping her offspring will have more prominent tufts than she does.
