Am interested in having a BLUE Silkie.  Are you interested in a trade?  Not sure what will hatch only that they are pure bred Silkies.

  my hatch will happen between the 11th and the 14th. The 11th is day 19, and Sumatra's tend to start to hatch on day 19.

The saratoga springs farmer's market is open year round. they run the winter market inside a school - still lots of people there!

I just went to our local farmer's market this morning.  During the winter months they have it once a month in the fire hall.  I got beef jerky and a couple bottles of wine.  My girls each got a cake pop.

I called all 3 TSC that are near us this morning to see what kind of birds they have. Tetra tints, red sex links, amber links, assorted reds, barred rocks, black giants, and cornish X

I will probably be firing up the bator then and putting in what my girls laid to check fertility.  Where are you located?  I am sure we could work something out.  I am hoping that all goes well when I do mine.  I will also keep you posted as to the actual set time. 

Rancher--thanks for the pics.  My dh is inspecting them. 

Ginny--post pics of your hoop coop as well.  We are trying to figure out what kind of run to put on the new coop and pics are a plus. 

Lots of melting today so my yard is a soft mess.  The cheeps were funny when my dh was shoveling out their run.  They walked just outside their run onto the snow and looked hilarious trying not to slide and fall.  Dh emptied a bag of leaves and pine needle in when he was done and they were good for a couple hours of busyness.  Got 4 eggs so they must be happy.  Its windy here so I am hoping it will help dry up the dampness in the coops somewhat.  Take care all.

Yes, if you google Regional Market Syracuse it should come up.   Sundays is flea market day.  Plus crafts and baked goods. 

Saturday is alot of veggies and home baked things like breads and cookies and such. There is pastas and meats and fish and soaps and cheese  , maple syrup and eggs of course  Wool and home made things.  In the spring it will be flowers and plants though there were some today.  There are also folks who sell bagels and crepes and there is a resturant next door that is reasonalble.  

It's right hear the  Carousel Mall so a trip up might be worth your while.  There are also motels and hotels nearby too.   This weekend is the CNY blooms flower show and it's very nice.  I usually go every year but this month money is tight so I won't.  It's usually the first week in March.  You can get a dollar off admission too.

Have you seen the  "drill attachment" plucker on  Youtube?   I hope the find a used  electric drill make a set up.  It looked easy enough and cheaper than a big plucker thing.  

Ktblue3 -  I wouldnt' worry to much about the humidity getting it exact.  I add water through the vent hole with an eyedropper or a a straw.   In a nut shell the article that I give out says 35% to day 16 then 55% to day 19 and then 65% from then on.   I've had it fluctuate lower and that doesn't seem to matter but on day 19 up I try not to go over 65%  If I can get it to between 60% and 65% I'm happy.   

Mind you I'm using a Genesis 1588.   I like my temps to be 99.5 -100.2

  I have seen it Rancher. looks simple and cheap to make. looks REAL messy to use. I prefer to build the tub type on a budget. There is a video out on you tube with a tub type that a guy built with scrounged parts for about $30 is I remember right. That's my goal. 

    I would love the hatching article if you don't mind. The more I can learn on hatching the better. And the more info the better.

KT, there is a thread in the meaties section of the forum that is VERY GRAPHIC.  It shows step by step how to kill, pluck etc...and he uses a killing cone.  His method is exactly my method, except when I pluck my birds, I do it by hand.  I've both skinned and plucked.  If you're going to skin, I could link you to a great youtube on it - or I think there's a sticky for that too, in the meat birds section.

Thanks for the tips on the farmer's markets, ya'll!  I think I need to search for a few closer to my neck of the woods.  With the cost of gas, it just doesn't make that kind of a drive worth the trip.

Went to TSC a little while ago and didn't come home with any chicks.  They had barred rocks, some sort of red star and some sort of sexlink production bird.  Nothing to get excited about....although I would like some little peepers.  The girl working there was nice and tried to give me the "educational sell" by giving me what facts she was taught about the birds, which were all in good intention but all slightly off.  I told her that I have several chickens and am quite familiar with them and thanked her for trying to educate me none the less.  I asked her how many chickens she had and after all of that pseudo-education she said "None!   I've actually never tasted a fresh egg."  lol
