I lost a quail yesterday.  I have some coturnix.  I opened up their house and he flew right out.  Tried to catch him, but he flew further and then we couldn't find him.  He blended right in...... :(

NINE eggs today.....LOOOOVE it !!!!!

I put up 100 Feet of "safefy fence" this weekend to keep the birds out of the garden area.....well that lastest for less than 24 hours....3 of them were on the wrong side of it already.   Cripes...is there anything they can't figure out?

I'm no longer totally new to all this and I am loving it

I had a cat named Stubby too..   He had to be put down last summer.  I got him and his mother Bob off the mail route years ago.  Bob had a stub for a tail.  Very friendly. I adopted her out.  Being a mail man you pick up a few strays now and then.  smile.png

I'm stopping at the Fancy Chick in Middlefield OH if you want to google her website? They're not my birds, so I don't have any pics... Just thought I would offer in case someone was looking for something and having a hard time finding a certain breed!
I really really did not need any more chickens either Rancher! :O But I'm adding Cream Legbars, Choc Orps and another pen of Silkies this year. I'm eyeing those Swedish flower hens too...
I found one of the places that makes outbuildings and such is now doing... Drum Roll.... RENT TO OWN! So I'm going to add another building here, no one tell my husband, okay? roll.png

I have these.  Added them in Jan.  Those and Birchen Marans.  If you do get some let me know so I can get eggs to add to the group I've got.  Not sure how the deep the line is in these or any of them.   I've to 3 hens and 4 roos.  in the SFH's.

I don't know your husband so don't worry.

Are you getting eggs?  I have 27 quail, 2 weeks old now (in addition to the 14 adults...10 girls, 10 eggs almost every day.)

ETA: one of mine got out one day, but the coop is on the porch.  It landed among my 28 meatie chicks...that was a sight!  After I got it back in the coop, I added some plastic hardware cloth to cover the bottom of the door, since it was actually pushed out by the others in their excitement as I was refilling the food and water.

Just throwing it out there, I am very pleased that I sent an email to the 20th district congressman Chris Gibson regarding a few things, (agriculture, urban farming, "PATRIOT" act, ect) and within two days, I received a personal email FROM HIM.

Very glad, and happy.

Didn't vote for him first.

But will next time around.

Keep up the good work, Chris.

Has anyone every had a chick that sat very far back on their legs, like on the joint itself. I had one, the last to hatch and it just was not getting any better. Almost like the legs were sticking out to the side. I taped the legs in, and it did not help with mobility and the chick was not growing. I put it down last night when I noticed that the joints were inflamed from walking on them.

Right now I got 19 healthy chicks in the brooder, and 42 eggs in the bator. I know this will not be the last hatch of the year as I still have no Amers hatched, and a few friends want blue egg layers.

dispatching chicks, when there is something wrong with them is always hard to do.  Sorry you had to do it.

Sorry to hear about that, Framac, and sorry for your loss, Itsy.

It is great to hear about all of the eggs and hatches, though.  Isn't this weather great!
