NY chicken lover!!!! - Page 998

Despite our doubts as to their skills with the ladies, one of the boys (probably the head honcho Rosco) has done his job successfully.  I went out and candled the Leghorn egg with a good LED flashlight, and the peep is happily developing away in there.  The other four eggs are varying shades of brown, so those have to wait a couple of days.  With luck, there should be at least one chick around the 30th.  jumpy.gif

Henicillin:  Good luck with your broody.  My favorite way of having chicks.  So much less work....

Rancher:  Like you, I have close neighbors.  So letting them free range is out of the question.  They would either be smoosh on our busy road or would be cleaning up at the neighbors and they would be not happy about chicken poo in their yard.  No appreciation for good fertilizer, huh? big_smile.png

This is the next best thing.  I wanted electric netting, but couldn't come up with the $500.00 it would cost for 200 ft of fencing plus solar charger.  Of course it means I can only let them out into the temporary fencing when I am home.  That cuts down on the amount of yardwork they can do.  We call it "holding up progress" around here.

All of you have such good pics of chickies.  They are so cute.

Ordered cherry trees and forgot they are poisonous to livestock.  Now I have to find a place to plant them that chickens/horses will not be.  *Sigh*  Here's my sign.....

I've been outside working in the yard all afternoon.  I'm hoping to clear the last of the wood chips off the lawn so it can be mowed.  Haven't mowed yet and the grass is pretty tall.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow.

I'm bored.   I turfed all my chicks to the coop and now I have no one to play with.   The eggs only have to be turned 2 -3  times a day, so they're no fun.   My broody silkie is a trooper....but just sits there...that's no fun either.   barnie.gif

I'm no longer totally new to all this and I am loving it

Of all the things I ever lost, I miss my mind the most.

So I ask him if they are coming in at a later date and he said no, it was cancelled. So I ask what breeds they are getting in next week and he said, Gold Laced Wyandottes, Autralorps, yada yada yada ... So I asked him to put the GLW and Aussies on hold for me and throw in another BO ...(and I was planning on grabbing a few more of something)

FF to today ... I call and the chicken guy isn't there but a nice young man that works there tells me that those 2 breeds didn't come in .... that the boss will have to call on Monday to see what the status is .... somad.gif

My electric netting is portable.  I move the same 50 ' of it every week or so. Maybe you don't need 200'.  I run it off my horse fencer and did not purchase a new fencer for it......
