Does anyone make a part time income???

I am fixing to expand my flock of barred rock hens and rir roosters and get an incubator to start hatching black sex-links and selling the chicks every month up at auction.  I am looking to hear from those that have been doing this for a while and find out what kind of success you are having as well as any advice or pointers.  Thanks

Chickens probably won't bring in much if any profit. Only way would be if you have a relatively small flock and set and hatch absolutely every egg they lay, and sell the chicks. You might then break even.

I've researched it a little too and it looks like unless you have a major operation it's hard to make any money at it. I just do it for fun and if I can get a little back to cover the feed and stuff that's ok.

Plymouth Barred Rocks, Delawares, New Hampshires, Rhode Island Reds,  Bantam Barred Rocks and Bantam Buff Brahmas. But love my mutt bantams too.

agreed with peoples opinion that there is not much profit in it, i personally hatch several pure bantam breeds and sell them either as day olds, or a few months, depending on how many i have at the time (sell from $5-15 each from 1 day old up to 2-4 months), it probably covers the cost of the feed for my few flocks, and its fun smile

That's about what I do, though my feed bill is payed by my quail. I don't make much of anything from the chickens (yet wink).

I teach school on the side to pay for the birds...and snakes...and lizards...and fish...oh wait you meant the other way around...he  sorry...I see it as donating  jumpy
