We have friends from Florida visiting and the wife loves to go out and get the eggs from the nest and gather veggies from the garden.  I happened to look out the kitchen window yesterday and saw my hubby acting suspiciously as he went into the fenced chicken area. I cornered him later and asked what he was up to....he put a round, smooth ROCK in one of the nest....wants to see how our friend reacts when she finds a rock, hard egg today!!lol Should be interesting;)

Lmc! I even asked my hubby if we could take a road trip to Lapeer for some of your EE's cause that's next on my list! But we decided to wait until spring. But what a great surprise you got in the bator and the PO! Once my feathers are fully developed on this new chicken adventure I want to try hatching.  Cant wait to see your pics!

Oh and the rock in the nest is great!  Love it!!!

Married to a lovely farmer, and have 1 Blue Heeler, 1 Cane`Corso, 1 Rescue Mut, 1 Huntseat Gelding, and now 3 Rhode Island Reds (I think they are), 6 pond fish, and 4 frogs in the pond too!

Good morning Michigan!

I am looking for a bantam hen.  Preferably friendly and preferably 2 years or older!

Does anyone have one they will sell me? I will drive to pick her up.  And she will have a great home.

My hens are pets and I am down to just one hen who is lonely! Thanks!

I don't know how she does it, but my herding dog can get into the chicken yard. The fence is 4 feet tall with a 1 foot barrier staked to the ground.  I don't think she can jump that high, but ya never know.
I looked out to see Bella standing in the pen eating the chicken treats. She doesn't bother the chickens except to herd them all into one group. That's her nature.

Never a dull oment around here.

What kind of herding dog?

Once I got my chickens we stopped working so today I want it done. have to finish my nest box interiors, I decided to add small vent holes in the south side for winter ventilation, and need to insulate the big main door. Oh and make a plexiglas window covering for winter months. It blows so hard here in Ionia as we live in open fields and we all know how cold it can't get. I'm worried about having enough ventilation and not freezing them out with open spaces. Anyway back to coffee and more reading!

Can't wait for pictutres and welcome-byc Hopper.

I'm sorry, I know this is totally off the subject of byc...

http://news.yahoo.com/31-americans-7-afghans-killed-helicopter-crash-145151275.html

This is the worst loss of life in one day since the war began in 2001.

Included in the report are 20 members of the Seals team that killed Bin Laden.

This is just a reminder that just because Bin Laden is dead doesn't mean everything is safe.

I don't know about anyone else, but I will be saying a few prayers and thanking those that have risked their lives more often.

Too many chickens and ducks, 3 rabbits, 14 turkeys, 3 dogs and 2 beyond spoiled pot bellied pigs! Oh and 2 kids and one nearly perfect boyfriend!
