Good afternoon Michigan, snowing and cold here this morning, but the girls ran out the door as soon as they could.
Lavender, also called self-blue, is a separate gene from the regular blue (also called Andalusian blue)
Andalusian blue - a gene that acts on black (and red) to dilute them. If you have wild-type bl/bl, a black bird is black. Bl/bl is blue of various shades, the feathers usually have a pencilling of darker blue but not always. And Bl/Bl is splash ( I see some people are calling them white, but they are not). These are very light colored to white in appearance, usually with blue blotches (splashes) of color. Breeding Bl/Bl splash to Bl/Bl splash will leach out the color to almost pure white.
Lavender (self-blue) - a separate gene, Lav; the recessive form is lav, and a bird with 2 lav genes will be a light grey or blue shade, without any pencilling on the feathers. A bird is either lavender in color or not, Lav/Lav and Lav/lav are non-lavender.
Ask Mibirder about genetics books, he is a wiz.
Ha got to Taprock! Now how about the rest of you? You could have one to THESE (another cute-kid-falling-asleep-face-first-into-the food pic)
