Got up early this morning and drove to Cabelas to work with a friend who reps for Luhr Jensen and Rapala. Given how nice it was to day it sure was difficult to stay inside. I finally left at 5pm and my old bones are tired from being on my feet all day.

...When I started reading your message, I figured my kids were the reason you came down w/ a migraine!
Hey Randy... Just be glad I didn't leave the wake of damage at your house as I did at Susans...man, we left a wake of migraine headaches and tornados when we left there!
Now, the tornado, though... That was unusual. You may not be off the hook for that one.
9 hens, 3 roosters (GLW, EE, Ameraucana, Sebright, Speckled Sussex); 5 geese (Toulouse and Toulouse-American crosses); a Royal Palm tom turkey, two great dogs, an inside cat who thinks she wants to be a barn cat, three actual barn cats, 10 acres of swamp fit for mosquito ranching, and a DH who has a talent for giving eggs away.

Welcome farmgil-09

Can you believe this weather? I am so excited to see the sun again! Sooo we finally got our chickens on the 4th and 6th of this month. A healthy mix of NH red, barred rocks, leghorns, silver wyandottes, black stars and hopefully a few Isa's. We got 80 and have been lucky that we haven't lost any yet. I think I'm addicted. I could probably spend my whole day watching them and their crazy antics. I also can't believe how fast they grow! The first batch has almost tripled in size and are feathering out like crazy. I do have a few questions for those of you who have gone before me. The first batch is a straight run. What do you do with the extra cockerels? I kinda want to keep them to butcher when they're ready, but I know they can be slow growing. Do I just separate them some how? How do I prevent fighting? Or is it better to try to sell them off asap? Also, can anyone tell me who we can sell our birds to? Is it just private citizens or can we sell to grocery stores, hotels and such? I found the exemption for not having to be inspected but I have been unable to find who we can sell to. Also does the bird have to be alive when the transaction is done? I appreciate any info you can offer up. My brain is shot from trying to decipher the cryptic wording of chicken laws. Thanks!
you can always try to caponize the roos. the met is supposed to be better and you can grow till you are ready to butcher with out fighting. Our first yr. with chickens we got a bunch of roos planning to use them as meat birds, by 4months they were going at each other I had to separate which was not easy, next time we did meat birds I got cornish x and got all hens
Welcome tomzinke
cool a family affaire ,,,love the chick pics.

Hello from Bradenton, FL! Went out on the Gulf of Mexico yesterday for about 6 hours and had a pod of dolphins follow us for 1/2 an hour. We stopped and they actually came about 15 ft. from the boat and stopped and looked at US! Way cool and very exciting! This morning a 4 ft. alligator was laying about 30 ft. from the back door when we got up. Now if I can just see a few cool snakes I'll be happy! Catch up with y'all when I get back.
the dolphins would be really neat to see, you can keep the alligator and snakes. salamanders and garden snakes are more my style
don't remember who posted the pics or your niece peeking at the chicks.
really cute!!!
Mom2 don't over do, ,,glad you are feeling a little better

Sam! My husband wanted to go to Cabelas after we met up with Ferret but my belly couldnt handle it. I told him you were there,,,said I would love to go..my daughter wanted to go too..but sadly, the drive to Brighton plus the traffic jam and then back did me in.
Another time. The two of you can meet and talk turkey and deer and fishing and critters.

Or old work boots. We have a garden center here that sells newer boots with lovely flower arrangements in them. Nothing better than repurposing old stuff...you know, trash to treasure. Beautify that lawn. LOL.
That's good to hear, Mom2.

Hey Mom2, Juise is planning to go to DF on Sunday. They are planning to visit family, I believe, Saturday, that is that way, pick up the chickens Sunday and head back. Could you imagine 2 littles in the car for 6 hours! I am sure you can, so that's why they are doing it in 2 days. Lol. I can barely handle my 2 boys in the car for 4 hours let alone 6!
Juise, just be happy she didn't take daddy's shaver to her hair... My oldest used to do that, then I'd have to shave him bald. And no, he hasn't learned not to yet...
I remember those days. Oh wait, that was last week. LOL. Like Mom2, I have 3 teens. 17, 16, 12. They don't mix well on long car rides without something to occupy them. It's the only time we encourage their use of any gadgets and gizmos.
