Yea, coccidia are very small & hard to ID. I didnt' mention the Fecasol because I preferred to use a sugar solution most of the time at school, brings up the heavier ova. And cheaper than fecasol, lol. But yes, that way works too, although like I mentioned never did a bird fecal before.

There is a Tractor supply, I was thinking of checking there but I thought it might be overpriced. I looked on Craigslist last night, found some farms but they were a bit of a drive to go pick it up. But my BF just bought a new diesel truck last night and he's itching to put it to work so maybe he wont mind a drive...lol

The only pear trees around here are the ornamental flowering variety. They sure do look pretty though.

Darn near every flowering tree around here is in bloom.

yeah spring, never had allergies  before but sure seems to be effecting me this year, or I got my DH cold

went out to open the run so the birds could free range, and found 2 eggs on the poop board one rubber shell and 1 soft, had one soft yesterday, I think I will separate my hens 3 different egg color layers at a time and band their legs with different colors to see if I can find out who is laying the soft shells,,,, not a calcium issue I have 2 big pans of cal. plus in the feed. could be age as a # of my birds are 4

one DH 4 great kids 9 wonderful grandchildren, 1 cat, 2 roosters and 30 hens......,Living my dream. Life is good!!  retirement is GREAT!

First let me say - I need to put on my old peoples glasses before I start typing as evidenced in my last reply about a BF driving his new truck.

That said, I've got bartletts and comise for cross pollination.  I'm going to the nursery today and find another variety..

my mother in law has so many pear trees in her yard...every year, she gives us boxes and boxes of pears..I hate pears but the kids love them...to me, they are WASP trees..lol.

My hens are out there throwing a tantrum..I liken it to teenagers sharing a bathroom...many places for them to lay but they all want to lay in the same spot...so, one is on the nest inside the rabbit hutch...and the others keep coming up one by one to itch and complain..."WHUUUUHHHH? Whuuuhhhh whuuhhhhh? Dummmmmplllinnnnnsss"

then they go back down and come back up and complain some more...Hurrryyyy UPPPPP I gotta go.....

I have a polish..I think..it may be the frizzle with babies? but anyhow, SOMEONE has been dropping eggs out in the yard all over..every day. Like a toddler who doesnt wanna stop playing to come in to go to the bathroomm...oops, too late...wish I knew which bird it is that is doing it.

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Well that did not go well.

I received a ticket and have to contact the court to set up a hearing. Even though he did not see a single chicken, hear a chicken or anything of the like.

He wanted to nit pick a bunch of stuff like why there was no grass growing in some areas. I showed him the grass seed already on the ground and the open bag sitting next to the spreader. Then he said the pond wasn't allowed. Called the tent garage a "chicken coop" even though it was full of yard machinery.

It was pretty obvious that he had his mind made up even before he got here so  when he asked to go into the garage I politely declined. He didn't care for that answer. He said I "must" be hiding something. I told him it was messy and I was embarrassed for anyone to see it. He almost laughed at that point.

Anyway, the first shot has been fired across my bow. The Garden City Chicken War has been declared.

Im sorry RaZ...but did he give you a reason why your pond is not allowed?

Time to play the game. No reason to call on your neighbor? Maybe she is running around screaming and naked- must be off her meds..fear for your safety?

When I lose what brings me pleasure around here- I am going to be the biggest neighborhood narc..and there is plenty more to be concerned about around here than a couple chickens.
