Raz, a little advice from someone with several more years of life experience.  While it is a given that you neighbor falls way short of the definition and is not a nice person, it won't accomplish a thing if you get angry.  Your anger would just makes her actions more satisfying for her.  No matter how much grief she has caused you, you can't let her know that you are upset.  It would be much better to redirect your emotions towards revenge.  Stay up nights if you have to and come up with as many devious plots as possible.  Remember that revenge is a dish best served cold.

Photo of Pinus strobus L.

Pinus strobus L. (eastern white pine) is the Michigan state tree.  You can tell how old it is by counting the whorls of branches from the ground up. They usually produce a new whorl each season. Of course that is not 100% true, the trees don't always read the book.

Oaks were fairly hard for me to identify, they hybridize quite readily. I have a chart that shows which ones can cross with what. One tree can have leaf characteristics of 2 or 3 ancestral parents. My tree identification class was so difficult that I had to take it over to improve my GPA. But it was an awesome class.

Oh, I'm not mad. I was prepared for the ticket. I don't fault the ordinance officer for doing his job either.

I've been outside most of the afternoon, putzing in the yard. The cedars are lined up near the fence, the yard tractor is parked in plain sight as are nearly all of my yard equipment as I am cleaning out the garage. The stereo is on and I'm just opened a barley soda.

Now I just have to find the AWOL mallard. Time for my herding dog to earn her keep. big_smile.png

I'd still get even.

Actually red pines only have 2 needles in a bunch, so it doesn't work as well as the whites. I always learned red pines by their red scaly looking bark. I know, that's really scientific lol. I will tell you the un-PC oak ID if everyone promises not to get offended. tongue.png

I agree. It's not revenge - it is teaching her the consequences of her actions.

Are you referring the Quercus spp. which are found in the Fagaceae family?

We had a guy in class, late 20's or so, who would giggle uncontrollably at those names as well as the Pinus genus.  Some people, eh?

I'm still missing a duckling. The earlier AWOL bird was found 2 houses down and the guy who lives there (a court officer) walked down to ask if it was mine. It was hiding under his deck ( a deck built without a permit, I might add). Anyway, I brought the wanderer home and several other neighbors had to see what I had. Seven people did the "Awwww, so cute bit".  But while I was doing that, another mallard went for a walk. As big as they are, they managed to fit through 1" by 2" wire fence.  Pen is not doubled up with 1/2 inch mesh. I hope I find #4 before anything happens.  But they ARE wild birds.

JUST WAIT RAZ!

I have done mallards every year..

the next thing they do is start learning to fly.

They learn to fly over the fence by accident and then cant get back...as in, privacy fence...

and then after you dont think you can handle chasing them down ONE MORE time with a large fish net out of the neighbors yard and putting them back into yours...

they actually start flying...and will circle the house and land in the front yard. Finally they will figure it out and come back to your pond where they belong....

until the fall...and you wont see them again until breeding season. :)

Mine are not mallards, are not wild, but they will find any hole they can get thru, and get thru it! Its like, they are greased up just to do that, and not just for water proofing.
At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.

Found the little guy/girl. Actually Maggie, my Golden Retriever found her for me. It was in the garage hiding under some stuff.  Maggie was the one who spooked them in the first place so she just redeemed herself.  All ducklings are accounted for and I'm going out to put some netting over the top of the pen.

Life is good!
