I havent actually even talked to my mom yet, that is what my brother texted me...and I guess he might have to have some sort of surgery too...no news yet.

Sarah, so sorry your phone failed you.  Will say a prayer that your Dad will be okay.

So I talked to my mom, she said he had a very minor heart attack and they are going to go in there w/dye (I forgot what thats called) to find the blockage, then fix it when they find it. She told me at this point I dont need to come up there. He apparently he is comfortable and not nervous which is good. Mom however needs a xanax Im pretty sure haha. Thanks for listening guys, Im glad I found some friends here.

Alright! That does it! Does anybody know who has silkies in the west Michigan area? I'm getting really frustrated.with this LG bator. Last time it had a temp spike of 106 just before lockdown. This time I've.really been babysitting it and it still had a temp spike of.104 last night. Checking it every few hours when I get up with the baby anyway. I've got sponges in it and still can't vet humidity above 60. Hatch day tomorrow. Trying not to get my hopes up.

Sarah, of course this is just my opinion, but if you have a chance to go see your dad now I would go.  Although it is very likely he will be fine, you will not regret seeing him to be sure, and maybe help your mom out a little too.  Hope he is doing great.

Lots of folks seem to do really well after a minor heart attack because they start to eat better and exercise a bit and they are under the close watch of the doctors.

Where do you get the pelleted type?  Anything that is less dusty is a good thing.
 

 

Sarah, this happened to my mom a year ago.  They did the dye thing on her, too.  From that they determined she only needed 2 stints put in instead of open heart surgery.  I would've been there if I could, but they are in Tennessee so everything was pretty much done before I could arrange to go there.  I say go if you can and see your dad.  Your mom needs you, too, even if she won't admit it.

 

 I hope your dad gets better soon.
 

If you find someone, let me know.  I would love a silkiebator...not to mention I kind of promised my daughter I would get her one...

Sarah - First, prayers for your Dad.  I hope he's OK. 

 

Here is a picture of my poop boards.  This is an old picture, they are now suspended by chains and covered with linoleum.  I sprinkle PDZ on them every couple of days to keep them dry and make them easier to clean off.  I clean them every day and it really does keep the smell down and cleaning the bedding under the roosts to a minimum.  Just to give you an idea of how they work.  With your coop being so small, I don't know how you could make them fit.  Also a thought about the roof of your run.  If it's not covered you might want to figure some way of doing that or you may lose your hens to coons and other predators.

 

 

 

 

This is my first year with turkeys. I got these BR last summer. Right now I have 3 toms & 2 hens. ( I know, I need to cull at least one of the toms. Nobody fighting yet though) My hens started laying 3/14. They only laid everyother day for the first 4 days then kicked right in to an egg from each hen every day. Everyday I go out to write the date on the eggs, so I could remove the older ones the more they laid. I kept revolving around 12 eggs. I went out last night, but could not get into the nest. A hen is in there. I believe she is sitting on 14 eggs. That was yesterday evening around 6pm. She is still in there. I did see her out of the coop just before dark for about 30 sec's then she was back inside. Keeping my fingers crossed. They are all between 9-10 months old. The males have been strutting constantly since early january & my husband seen them a cpl times mid-late january breeding.
