I am not a huge fan of the white ones; they don't seem to smell as good as the purple ones.  I just think every farm needs a lilac bush.  And every farm kitchen needs a vase full of the flowers on the counter when they're in season.

I agree, love them too! I agree they're pretty ugly when not flowering, but ours is a pretty huge tree at this point. It's a white one; always thought I liked the purple ones better, but the white ones match my bathroom really well! And make it smell great.

While I love the smell of lilacs has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a correlation between use as a fragrance and hair color.

When having problems with chickens stop and think, what would Harlan do?
I've dealt with many thorns in my life and the flower is always worth the effort.

Yes I have noticed that Opa. Maybe that particular scent is easy to "capture" and concentrate into fragrances? Lily of the Valley is my other favorite...smells so wonderful and also makes a great perfume.

I think my bantam is trying to go broody. The last 2 days when I've gone out to the coop to collect, there she is, all puffy & sitiing on 3 or 4 large eggs. Tonight when I went to go lock up she was still sitting in the empty box. So up on the roost, way at the end she went. This was the same behavior last fall I got from her when she tried to get broody. She laid 6-7 maybe 8 eggs then I had to keep taking her out of the nest every time I found her in it on the others eggs. It only took a few days to break the habit so if this is the case hopefully it will be just as easy this time.fl.gif

Such busy chatters today!

We had freezing rain here earlier so ice was all over.  Great way to start our journey.  tongue.gif  Thankfully, the further south we went it got clearer.  The rain held off for my uncle's funeral so we were glad for that.  Was able to spend some time with family that I haven't seen in awhile so that was nice, too.  It seems unfortunate, though, that it is usually under these circumstances that we do get to see each other since everyone lives so far away.

On the drive home, DH wanted to take the lake shore drive.  It was nice, but took forever!  2 hours down and 5 hours back. th.gif  So tired!

Nova, I noticed all the tulips blooming downtown Holland.  So pretty, but a shame because they won't last for Tulip Time.  I even have one attempting to bloom in my yard.

As for lilacs, I have 2.  They smell wonderful, but I wish the one in the front yard were in the back with the other.

Im just glad nobody is trying to defend Magnolia trees.  If you have to mow around either one Ill take lilacs because at least the lilacs smell good.

I guess the fear of using an inverted table and not being able to swing back up right is common. DH just came in from running back to work for a few more hours. He showered and just announced to me....."I'm going downstairs to hang up side down...if I can't back up I'll call you! lol"      Raz.... you're not alone!
