Any thoughts on letting my new girls out this week? We're doing a chicken tractor setup. The group we want to put out was bought on the 4th of March at about a week old. They're fully feathered out. Weather is in the high 50's on M,T,W and in the low 40's on TH. Lows of high to mid 30's. Think its ok?

Short periods of time. Keep the heat lamp available to them to go warm up under...

At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.

Sure is quiet in the house. Chicks have found their spot in the garage. They have been checked out by the big girls and pretty much ignored. Heat lamps are secured near their claimed spot and I'll check again at full dark.

Throughout the day, I looked in on them for any sign of distress or chill and they seem to be fine.

I'm right there with ya...I'm pretty sure at least one of my SLW's is male too. His comb is pinker than everyone else's and he's got quite an attitude.

love all the pics, bunny's and this one with the momma hen is priceless

I think the little chick in that pic looks funny, like it's saying "hey that's mine!" lol

Got a little work done on the coop today, not as much as I wanted to but some. Painted some finishing parts and pieces and cut and made the chicken ramp. Also wanted to finish fencing but didnt have time...I was working pretty slowly haha. Had the chickens out in the yard for a couple hours to run around. I bought some of those happy hen treats, the dried meal worms, and they dont seem to really like them. Im kind of surprised because they usually eat everything.

Yep, Borculo has a dandelion festival.  Never went to it, but I remember in high school (Zeeland) that we would joke about it.  I golfed there when I was on the golf team.

Now mind you, my friends made more fun of the festival from the town I lived in before Zeeland.  I'm sure you're familiar with Fennville's ever popular Goose Festival.  Even my kids laugh when I mention it to them....

What do quail-wild quail look like? I mean, how big are they?

Well, little rose got off her nest sometime last night or this morning. Eggs were stone cold, and she was wobbling around. I fed her as many worms as i could scrounge up and put her back on her nest.

Do you think her eggs are still good, or are they goners this time? I am wondering if i'm gonna have to suck it up and get a few mystery bantams from the bin to make her happy.

Leila got off of her last egg... and i hought it was a goner... I put it in my cleavage, and dang thing warmed up and started hatching... not saying to do that... but just saying, you never know.

Ok... now the reason I am asking about the quail is that I saw some birds today, and I have no idea what they are. Thye were about the size of my chickens, but not as long legged, and I know they are not pheasants, no tails, and I can't find any pics of quail that look like them... I did get a pic... maybe I will see if some one can tell me what they are...

We got to borrow DH's (other) sister's kids from out of state for the week! Awsome kids so far. We baked up strawberry shortcake to celebrate the event.

(Nothing at all like the last hair raising debacle of trying to run the other kids around!m:O  )

Haven't gotten to see these guys in years.
