Right now he has them during the day only. DH has to build me another coop so until then Neil goes into his own personal pen at night. Once the 4wk old chicks are older, I'm planning on putting them together so he'll have a nice flock to protect full time.
WOOOO HOOOO CHECK THIS OUT FOLKS!
ANIMALHEALTH.MSU.EDU
WE CAN FIND OUT WHAT TESTS THEY CAN DO AT M.S.U. and there is a FEE SCHEDULE posted!
o.k. now here is an interesting thing. dr. fulton sent me the info on doing MG testing and a submittal form. Fifelaker did her own swab tests for MG and sent them in. But the web site says 'for vets only' so if I wanted testing done, I would call to verify the costs and details. phone number is on this site.

one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens
Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

Oops, I was only concerned with natural light.

We took a 2 1/2 hour hike yesterday, and were accompanied by our cat Pipkin. For some reason, she spent almost the entire time with her tail puffed up and her mouth open. Not panting, just looking aggressive. I was starting to get pretty creeped out by the time we headed back, I wonder what was freaking her out?
She kept looking all around, and stuck close to the toddler the whole time, which is unusual. She normal skirts out and scouts around, or climbs up trees before rejoining us.
Edit - I guess I used a naughty word, oops?
Juise - Love the pictures of your little sweetie and the cat. I used to have a cat that followed me on very long walks also. Maybe she sensed a predator in the area and didn't want to leave you? Possibly a fox or coyote? How endearing that she stayed close to the baby, being protective. She certainly looked strange.

My prof said the same thing. Then he went on to present a published study that correlated hem lines to stock prices over time. Not that it related to biology but to show that numbers can organized to fit nearly any situation.
His point was that we can manipulate the experiment and/or the , data but it should represent something that we want others to consider seriously. As science advances, so does the analysis of data. I guess that is why none of us students are allowed to cite research older than 10 years when we write our papers.
A case often cited was the controlled study where bats eat 10,000 mosquitoes per night. The experiment had grad students count mosquitoes and put them in a box and then let a single bat loose and check the next day to see how many had been eaten. Even though the experiment was controlled, the conditions did not replicate natural settings.
This info was from a lecture given by the guy who was said grad student in the 60's who later became the professor who inspired me to go back to school for my Master Degree. He said that we should question science and how we perceive science.
In my interpretation, question everything.
Sorry about the losses. Hope Rose gets better, poor thing.
I had heart palputations when my thyroid wasn't working. Hope you find out why so you can take care of problem. Good luck. And Good Night.
My heart does some weird jumping around now and then that scares me, and I can feel it in my throat. Lots of times, I can hear it in my ears. Drives me insane. Doctor said my heart rate is too high, gave me pills for it. I havent started taking them yet- because something that slows down my heart scares me. I am waiting until I am fully recovered from surgery, then I will take them> I just need to know if some symptom I am feeling is from the pill or from something else. Doctor thinks I am crazy.

RaZ, just went to close up the chickens and I forgot to get the measurements
No shock there. However I did remember to put vaseline on one of my hens. Hopefully I will remember in the morning, maybe.
I hope the chickens enjoyed free ranging today since they may not get to anymore. I really like watching them roaming around the yard however so does the wildlife. I lost another hen today from right behind the house. DH found it way in the woods with only a couple of puncture wounds. We thought maybe a hawk got it but then later I found the feathers behind the house alongside this paw print. Strange that the hen got carried so far from the house and then left. You can see where he slid a bit as this was on a steep embankment. Darn it all ![]()
Im sorry for your loss of the hens. We have fox around here, but not actually here in the neighborhoods. I dont have to worry about them but definitely have a raccoon problem here. I hope you dont lose anymore.
Whenever you get a chance for measurements/ price no rush, Chickenstock is not until June :)

Well, :dejected sigh: i am pretty sure this time the eggs didn't make it. Little rose is definitely sick, i think when the water tipped over she caught a bad chill. When i got there today, she was in the nest, but not sitting, just standing there all weak and glassy eyed. Eggs were stone cold again. I put her into the dog crate so she could have more room to get better, since she has been away the others are picking on her. I gave her the eggs, because she didn't seem to know what to do without them, and covered her up a little with a blankie, that made her happy. I have been digging as many worms as she can eat from the manure pile, it is the only real food she'll eat. So sad, i hope she pulls out of this. She tried soooo hard.
I hope she recovers and pulls through for you!
You should have called the police. Told them your neighbor was putting her trash all over your front yard. I know you said the cans, but that would have brought them out.
Dont let her do stupid crap like that. She has you going to court over your hens. Why let her put her trash in the middle of your front yard?
OR if you werent going to call the police, you should have THROWN her bin back into her front yard. Or set it on fire. BS, stop letting her do whatever she wants. Crazy or not.
