Not very likely that it would make it.  This is one my brother tried to save after accidentally destroying the nest.  There were four babies and none survived with all the care and feeding he did for them.

I've got a pair with 9 cute little 6 week old ducklings right now. Mine are mutts, nothing special about them, the original mom was from a Quaker farm up here and the original dad from a lady in Hubbard Lake with lots of birds all over the place.

Part of why I ask is it seems like obtaining Muscovies around here is tough.  I'm not seeing them at hatcheries mentioned.  Do you think they'll have some ducklings at the show in Imlay City on the 28th?  Or should I order eggs from elsewhere?

The rabbit in this picture is on it's own...as soon as eyes are open and the ears are up they can fend for themselves. This one is probably at least about 6 wks old.

Oh yeah, that should be $4.15.  Must be my wishful thinking kicking in. 'Course I can remember when gas was under $.50...

Olive, wild bunnies are not very easy to raise, I have a friend downstate that used to run a wildlife rehab facility and she said often you would just get them to the point of release and they would just die.  In addition they are basically predator food, as they have few survival skills.  Are you sure the mother rabbit will not come back if you put it close to the nest site?  Rabbits avoid their nests so as to not attract attention to the scentless babies, but maybe she would return if undisturbed.

That's what the reading I did earlier said, too.  If it's eyes are open and ears are up best to let it be, they're old enough to fend for themselves and usually stress and lack of good flora in the gut from human feeding will definitely kill them at that point.  I was amazed how tiny they are when they're able to be on their own already, never would have thought it.  

This one is likely to die, too, given how tiny it is. But the kids think it's cool that I'm letting them try so what the heck.

There is no nest left.  It was IN the garden bed.  I was turning the soil, stuck the pitchfork down in, pried up and the whole thing came up with the soil I was turning, fur blew every which way, three of the four kits in the nest had been speared with the pitchfork already, just this one was untouched.  I finished the garden bed which meant further demolishing their home so I could get our potatoes planted.  There's no where for her to come back to.  I'm sure she'll return looking, but there's nothing left there and I don't want her having incentive to dig back in.  I don't feel like killing this baby, but his/her mama's not welcome in my garden either.  

Honestly, if by some freak miracle it lived I probably wouldn't bother releasing it.

So anyway both times I had a free minute today to call my doctor, guess what? "we're closed for lunch" and "we're closed for the day" are what I got. I called at 4:35, they closed at 4:30. What kind of crap is that? Ugh. Oh well, remind me to call in the morning. Ive got nothing exciting to talk about today...had my first meeting with my board review class...these exams are going to be so hard my brain hurts already. My two month olds are fully feathered but have still been spending cold days and nights in the dog crate in the basement at 60 degrees.  Will they be ok if I ship them full time to the little coop with no heat?   We are still below freezing every night.  Should I wait to transition them or will they adjust ok?

I'm with you on that one, I would have a hard time getting rid of such a cute little defenseless baby! :)

I wish I was close, I have a mommy bunny that's pretty good at accepting orphans with her own. Trouble is, we raise them for eating so it would only be here for 3 months anyway.

I farm for profit -- pigs, turkeys and geese -- wouldn't bother me in the slightest.  ;)  Actually, that's the first thing hubby said, "Raise it up and we'll eat it." LOL!
