Chicken Grandma, even our other silkie, Shmoo, is rough on her now. They used to all get along quite well, so I'm not sure where the attitude change came from. She is smaller than all of the others, Shmoo included, so maybe that's the issue.

Other than Shmoo, I no longer have any smaller birds. There's roost space for a few more bantams, but I don't think they have enough coop/run space in the winter for more than 5-6 birds. After seeing how she was being treated, I considered picking up a couple bantam chicks to raise and see if she would fit in with birds closer to her size. I may end up either getting a few smaller birds or try to find a new home for her if this bullying continues.

That sounds like a good plan Ferrett. I don't think once they are getting beat up that it ever ends well.

Where are  you located?

I know Mom2emall has a lot of banties right now.  And they are teen agers so they would be easy to mix with your Silkie. She could hold her own with them. But the question is always space, you might need a second coop. Or maybe just a crate in the garage for a little one(s) at night.

I'm thinking you need to sell me a baby sow or two!!!   I thought about contacting her about the pigs, but I'm glad you got them!  But... I'd be interested in a piglet!

Hey everyone! Long time no see!!

I have a question and I thought this might be the best spot to ask.

I have 9 BBB turkey poults (1 month) that have almost outgrown their brooder box on the enclosed porch. I have another brooder out in the barn I'd like to put them in because it's taller and they wouldn't be able to jump up and hit the top. One did and broke it's neck last week.

I know all about the blackhead thing and the debate over putting turkeys with chickens. Here's where I'm having an issue. The brooder in the barn is a wall of the barn on one side, the wall of the 2nd brooder on another, poultry wire facing the front of the brooder and a poultry wire wall that shares with the chickens. So in other words, the turkeys and chickens wouldn't have actual access to each other but they share a poultry wire wall. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, would that be ok? This would only be for a month or so until we're able to put them in their own enclosure. I probably could now but I want them a little bigger.

Lady feather - do you only have 3 chicks?

The little sleepy one may or may not make it. It is always good to get a few extra chicks because some just don't make it.  Don't know if it is too late to get a few more from the same place (best for disease prevention to get them from the same place).

Are those Isa Browns?

Thanks for posting, they are very very cute. Make sure the sleepy one keeps eating and drinking and make sure he/she stays at about 95 degrees for the next few days.

Thanks, Daron.  It was a pleasure meeting you and your family as well.  When we pulled out my oldest daughter said "You know, Mom.  I'm glad they're staying there.  I was worried, but they'll have lots of kids to love them still." :)
