Taprock- It sucks that you get charged double! It was all unwrapped and the wire that is supposed to hold it in a neat roll was sticking out everywhere, and the line was growing behind us... I think she just wanted to get on with her day... I hope she doesn't get in trouble...

???Thanks??? Bob big_smile.png they will have plenty of leaves and dirt to scratch in around the coop.

Juise/Nova/Sarah- Good to know! I think that is what we will do. They will have a fenced in area around the covered coop and run so it will mostly be for "litter."

We still have several weeks before they will be in the coop/run but it feels like we are getting so close to being finished! A lot of these coops on here say they cost $1200 or more... we have spent under $200 so far (with the free wire). We still have to get paint... I can't wait to add my coop instructions to the others! We are going to put redguard on the floor of the coop and stick tiles to it so it will be easy to clean and whatever gets through the tile cracks won't get into the wood.

I plan on painting the inside with high gloss paint. I wanted to paint the outside brown to blend it with the woods, but my BF wants to paint it the same creamy yellow color as the house ( that I am not fond of). I dunno make it match or make it blend??? That is the question!

CREAMY YELLOW???

BROWN???

Oh, and this is important!!!! Do I have to worry about any plants they might eat in the woods???

Sand over concrete shouldn't present any problems since you are only going to be using a few inches of sand that you can sift through or remove as needed.  The sand has excellent absorption properties especially in a building or covered run.  In a run you wouldn't have the problems with deep holes that I have in my run.  Obviously the birds would only be able to scratch down til they hit concrete.  Today I used 1 1/2 yards of sand to fill the holes in my large fowl run.  I wish my run was concrete.

When having problems with chickens stop and think, what would Harlan do?

I wish I could ride, I really like horses, just not being on them. My MIL and FIL both keep and ride horses, and so does my niece, she also does shows and thingies. I made her a hangy thing for Christmas that I tried make look like her horse, and woodburned her horse's name on it. It was my first time trying anything like that, so all things considered, I was happy with how it came out. Let me see...

Here's my little niece on her horse:

Olivia

Fine, maybe she's taller than me, whatever. She's still my little niece. Here's the thingy I made, could be a lot better, but I think it could be a lot worse for a first try, too, so I'll take it. I used a scroll saw and a dremel. She puts her horse's hair in little knot things for shows, which is what I attempted to do on the thingy. It for hanging stuff on.

Neigh Deen

Nova / BFM - I didn't have any moisture issues with sand in the brooder, it was quite absorptive, clumped and scooped well. Couldn't guarantee it on a large scale without trying it out first, though.

HH- Too flippin cute!!

I don't like that yellowish color either, so if it were me I'd pick the brown. Or you can compromise...paint the body brown and the trim the yellow color smile.png

Both horses are beautiful!! I like that "thingy" you made...way better than I could do, and I think you did an awesome job for a first try.

How about something that both blends a little better and offers a splash of colour, like a sagey green, or a rusty orange-red?

At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.
