When I was a kid my mom and dad fry would an onion with some garlic slices and wrap them in a cloth diaper and slap it right on my chest. It did work but ya end up stinking like onions and garlic, I would also get honey and whiskey warmed up to. But I think the honey and whiskey was for a sore throat. On a completely different note..... Some jerk stole all of my diapers off my clothesline today hit.gif $400 down the drain and I'm left with 6 prefolds 1 diaper cover and 3 kids in diapers. I have never been this frustrated and mad in my life.

I make a chest rub using coconut oil, olive oil, or vegetable oil as a base, and then for a basic rub I just add eucalyptus oil and / or peppermint oil. It works really well. If you have a humidifier you can put some of the eucalyptus oil or peppermint oil in there as well.

Actually I have recently found also that just snuffing the bottle of eucalyptus oil stops my asthma attacks faster and better than my inhaler. It's crazy! I was having a really, really terrible attack a couple weeks ago, had already used my inhaler twice, and was still hugging the toilet, gasping for air, and gagging, and my DH brought in the eucalyptus oil as a last ditch effort, because we use it for calming coughing spasms when we're ill, and the entire thing instantly stopped. I still can't believe it. Tried it again a week or so ago when I had an asthma attack, and it worked again. I am super stoked about that. But anyway...

When I am feeling extravagant I throw in lots of other things that are supposed to help, like dried thyme, rosemary, teatree... to be honest, though, I think eucalyptus oil is what really helps.

jendear - That is terrible!! I would be so upset... those things are very expensive. sad.png Plus, it's just total BS, what a horrible thing for anyone to do! I have extra prefolds I could send you, but I am not sure how much that would help. I know I have some extra covers and things, but I would need to check, I couldn't tell you what kind of condition they are in without checking, but please do let me know if you would like me to, I could send you a few pic if you want to see if you think you would want them.

Oh, yeah, and M.sue... awesome response! thumbsup.gif

Oh yes, and one more P.S. I got the whiskey and honey treatment, too, but for sore throats. I don't do it because I have heard that while it provides very temporary relief, it kills all the good as well as the bad and can set you back quite a bit on the road to recovery. hu.gif

Good Morning everyone!

Well, the other house behind me- my backyard butts up to two backyards- is for sale now. Sign in their front yard.

I just told my husband that he has to get my fence up. HAS TOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

He has been waiting for "dirt"...I understand doing it right, but I need it done half-donkeyed until it can be done right.

This weekend is the plan.

I think I will go order dirt and have it delivered. Then we can spend forever moving it from the driveway to the back and he can put up the panels and keep my chickens under cover...

Or else my panels will sit in the garage for eternity waiting for him to put them up.

RaZ,. D and L has five yards (?) for two hundred. Know of a cheaper place? I need about ten yards, I am guessing. I am pretty excited about bringing our yard up to where all the neighbor yards are.

OHHHHHHHHHHH I think I should see if someone will babysit Bubba so we can get the dirt out without worrying about him, and so we can seed the area and actually have it grow.

ANyone want to babysit a sixty pound tortoise for a couple weeks?

60 POUND TORTOISE! You are joking right! That's bigger than my kid! Both my dogs put together with the neighbors dogs! Dang! Will he eat my ducks? Lol. If you weren't across the state, I'd do it just for funzies.
At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.

coffee paper.gifMuch to my surprise it didn't take long to read the posts this morning.  So now off to work the crossword.

nO, nOVA-

i am not joking, lol. I have had him for years and years. This is the first year we arent doing the 'career day' for the kids at the elementary school. Last year was just too hard for me to get him there. And move him around there. My shoulder is garbage.

He doesnt eat the chickens, or ducks when I had them...he is a veggie pig. Grasses. Dandelions. Strawberries, cactus, Flowers. Grass. They run like a dinosaur has invaded their space, but he doesnt care about them.

I wish you werent across the state. Would make things much easier to redo the backyard.

One of my little Vorwerk hens is doing a good job of sticking tight on her clutch.  For anyone wanting very easy keepers they definitely are a breed to consider.  Beautiful chicks with black bodies and yellow heads that mature to the opposite color pattern.  Good layers, great mothers.

Kim, what would be the needs for caring for your tortoise?

Morning all.  Drinking my coffee and already done reading the posts.  Hmmm.... what happened to all the chattiness on here?

Got a question, and I've done some research, but am looking for personal experiences please.

Has anyone here in Michigan had to deal with bear in or around their coops?  We have a mama bear that has been seen with 3 cubs this spring.  She hibernated in a hillside cave down by the river maybe 3 to 5 miles from us, if that.

Since I am still building my coop and can still make some changes / additions, now would be the time to do it.

Last year the mama bear broke into the cottage across the street to get the bird feed, so is the feed more what they are after than the chickens and eggs?

Second year flock mom - so far have 2 EE, 4 BO, 4 BA, 5 Silkies, 2 Peafowl, 15 Araucana, 2 Lavender Orpingtons and 1 Light Sussex - PLUS lots of new chicks and even more hatching.  Barn mom to 2 QH, 1 mini horse, 1 mini jack, 1 new baby mini mule and 2 dogs.  I have not reached 'enough' yet!
