Maybe not. I have a herding dog and she generally ignores the chickens until the group gets spread out too much for her liking. Then she runs around to regroup them. (From the safe side of the fence)
My "problem-child" is my Golden who wants to pick up the stray and return the wayward chick to me. It's just the little ones that she can fit in her mouth. She doesn't hurt them but they don't know that.
She returned a wayward Wyandotte this morning. Somehow, the chick found a way out of the fenced run and my GR caught her in seconds and brought the chick to right to me. I was a bit surprised and the poor chick was terrified.
