yeahthat.gif That's why I want bees. <3

Olive - you know, I have a cat named Olive and I always feel like I am conversing over the internet with my cat every time I address you. Anyway, that was not what I was going to say. You can "bee line" the foraging bees near you to see where their hive is. Once they are done collecting, they fly straight back to the hive via the quickest route.  So you can follow that bee until you lose it, then wait for another to go by to get you closer. It should take you about forever. Or, you can get really complicated, and it will still take you about forever. :D

That was my last 2 days! I came in yesterday at dark shaking and feeling like I was going to vomit, which means I got a lot done... right? Or... maybe that's just me... I think I pushed it too far yesterday. I felt terrible. I think the biggest problem was most likely that I didn't drink any water while working in the sun all day, but coffee is so much more delicious! I expected to be all but laid out today after the last 2 days of this, but actually I feel better this morn than I did yesterday morn. Good luck!

Yay, Nigellas! I was thinking of that while the discussion was going on, but I couldn't remember what it was called and I couldn't find it. :)

lau.gif I didn't respond because I didn't know the answer. I just got a few araucanas and EEs, but I am not at present feeling like recommending the source. I'm not planning to use it again.

fuzzybutt love - No, indoor will not work, yes an outdoor oil based stain will most likely stain the cement. Get yourself a nice cheap drop cloth for painting. Plastic ones can be really cheap, especially if you only need one the size of a trellis.

We have a Habitat for Humanity resale store here that is really great for buying things like that. Of course, you are limited to the selection of colours they happen to have, but it is cheap. :) Might want to see if you have anything of the like in your area.

Amy PT - I think the only problem with you getting a different breed right now will be because you are adding a younger chick to your current ones, and anything on top of that to make them stand out more probably isn't going to help them. We have 7 different breeds and haven't had any issues, but they were not added together under those circumstances. If you really want to, though, I think you could try, but you may end up either needing to be able to have a divider in your brooder, with both sides having access to food / water / heat until they get used to each other, or you could do another brooder entirely and start introducing them together when they are a bit older and not quite as far apart in size. You never know, though, they might just all get along from the get go. hu.gif

When I went in  to Townline they didn't have any more chickens than they has listed.

---------------------------------------------------------

I've had a rough week. Not feeling well...lost a bunny...lost as in it jumped off the grooming table....then off my 8ft deck and off through the woods it went. I assumed (my fault) that the breeder, who shows rabbits, had blown out his coat before...apparently no. He freaked. :: sigh :: I found a suitable replacement for him but ****....if I didn't have alot of money just hop off into the woods. somad.gif

I have to post a picture of the chicks. I believe my blues are roos (see, I can Rhyme!). So if anyone is interested in blue roos...I can bring them to Chickenstock (I believe they are blue Andelusians). Just let me know. They are getting so big fast!

Re: My broody cochins....they are seriously being defiant and even though I am snatching eggs and kicking them out of the coop. They are still sticking to the program. I cringe to say this but does anyone have silkie eggs near Grand Rapids?

Yes the Michigan thread is a b s thread and most folks enjoy the social aspect of it.  However, when someone asks a question, usually the first knowlegeable person to read it will respond.  However, sometimes due to the volume of posts a question might get over looked.  I know that I try to respond to every question I read.

Sometimes if you have a specific question you might get a quicker response by forming your question on the appropriate thread.  Welcome to the Michigan thread and I sure as you continue to read you will enjoy yourself and starting adding your own bs.  Click on the link in my signature line for all the information about Chickenstock it is a great opportunity to meet some nice folks, share a meal, and see so nice birds.

For all you experienced people, if i wanted to paint my trellis with wood stain, would an indoor formula work at all? I've been told it washes off.  And supposing i got an outdoor formula, would that stain cement, too?  I had originally thought that an oil based stain would do the job, putting a wash of color on and repelling water, but not according to the guys at the store....

I may just end up slapping on some remaining  paint i have, just to put something on it, unless i can do this for around $10.  I would only need a quart or less to finish this project, counting the cement.

The concrete in question is busted concrete i am thinking about using for stepping stones/ cobblestone effect to make my grassless path not so obvious...

?????????????????????????????

For the best and longest lasting result you should use an outdoor stain.  Carefully read the label as there are basically two types, solid and translucent.

While any oil based stain would work it doesn't contain a sealer like the outdoor stains.  Any stain will color concrete so protect if you do want a mess.  If you are wanting your concrete colored there are stains specifically formulated for concrete that work very well.

Dear heavens!  I'm not that hard up.  LOL!  Actually, I forgot to even go for a walk this morning, so you see how much it really meant to me.   I'll just have to buy the hives, the bees and the equipment and when it arrives I'll hand the bee suit to DH and bat my eyes.  big_smile.png

You have to remember this a social page.  That said, yes it's about people venting their lives, acting out without reserve, and being know-it-alls.  Isn't that what being social is all about, lol!   It's also the internet therefore only you can decide what is true and what is not.  So, if you have a legit question you should ask.  If nobody gives you the time of day you can drop questions on the more specif pages.  I know of a few hatcheries out here, one is Townline in Zeeland, another is Cedar Creek In Cedar Creek, and the others only sell locally.  The two I mentioned have websites and a quick search using the many available engines should give you a link.  I hope the foolishness doesn't drive you away.  Sometimes it's fun to see what people share, and sometimes it's fun to learn a few things.  Again, welcome to the Social site!  John
