I hope the rain moves in, it has been so dry here.  There have been a few sprinkles but not enough to wet the ground under the trees.

Tonight is the council meeting regarding chickens in Garden City.  One councilman was quoted in the paper as saying he wouldn't mind chickens as long as they are "properly caged".  WTH?

The paper also has the proposed wording for the amended ordinance and it is asinine. They want a permit, a application fee, an inspection by an as of yet unidentified entity, renewal of permit each year and a ban of sharing the eggs with anyone outside the property.

Even though the council is open to allowing chickens, I think they need some education on chicken keeping and a lot better wording of the ordinance..

Is there anyway to write one out for them, siting other cities that it works in?  Also, I don't understand why giving away eggs is such a big deal.   not like the city would be sued if joe schmo got sick of fred schmed's eggs.

Wish we could have talked more this morning... work always gets in the way of fun!   I told my DH that he was going to a nice place with a huge pond, I figured he'd be happier with you than that darn tank.

Well, I just sold my eggs... YEAH! I don't even have a sign out yet! LOL. Anyway, the lady who stopped and asked for them, she also wanted to know if I sold chickens for eating. I told her I only had cockerels right now, and they're pretty much just good for soups and shredding. But they are frozen... so, she didn't want a frozen one. she wanted a fresh one. Well hell, the only not frozen one I have I was preparing for the slow cooker. No, I didn't sell it. I am eating that sucker tonight dangit all!

Sister is comfortable sitting in her own hospital room. She's having the surgery in the morning to mend the liver.

Anyway... how do you some of you sell? By the pound or by the whole bird?

At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.

She sent her BF for a lawyer.

will continue to pray for her......my daughter had a simple surgery go bad,,,tried to get a lawyer .....some one told us later, try to get some one out of the city, most lawyers in the area are in the hospitals back pocket   just a thought..

properly caged? what do they think chickens will do jump out and attack passing bi-standers???  do they say how many you may have?

most likely won't be enough to share a lot of eggs any how.......well good luck, sounds like they need some proper chicken education

Hope we get some rain too, haven't had any for a week or more and it is DRY

You would be wise to acquaint yourself with regulations for the sale of processed poultry.

Every once in awhile I think of something to post. Much of the time I decide few, if any peopl.e will give a rip about it (what I think) .

Sometimes the thoughts persist, and I think "Well, maybe someone will care, benefit, b e interested.  Who could say?"

Today I had hoped to put some thoughts ohit a wroug keyut (there). Musta  Like this screwed up mess. Wish I could type. Will wishing make it so?

Not too long ago there were words and thoughts displayed hereabouts. Then, they were gone. ****.

Mom To Em All,

I seem to recall you indicating that you had never met a teacher/ ex teacher that would admit that some teachers are not good and should be teachers no more. I am an ex who totally agrees with that premise. Matter of fact, I thought I Had expressed the concept in a previous post. Perhaps not. I was particularly  irritated by those of the occupation who professed that the job was to be done between 08:00 and 15;30  or 16:00. Can't be done.  Nor can it be done from September through May. Enough said.

Anyone interested,

in sleedling high bush cranberry bushes. Good wild bird feeders. Draw Cedar Waxwings to our yard. grow to 12 ft h by 8- 10 ft wide. White flowers red berries in fall. last through winter.

    seedling Rose of Sharron

   young fall bearing Raspberries

   Orange Daylillies

I do not guarantee they will grow but Nothing ventured  nothing gained.

POsting now to avoid losing this.

See, I had no intention of selling meat birds to the general pop... just doing them for me and my family and a few friends. co-workers. This lady, she just asked if I also sold them for eating... Oh, I'd hate to even think about actually doing it for a business! But, you are very right. I should find out what regulations there are so I don't get some hopped up jerk getting me in trouble. I was asking about the price, cuz if she comes back and asks again, (older Mexican lady and her English speaking daughter), then I just might consider it... AFTER I do as you say though. I could talk to the Kapengas, She processes and sells her own birds right out of her little butchering shop.

At the very least, wipe the poop off your feet before getting in the car.

It's not really about some "hopped up jerk" so much as the fact that Big Brother is watching and you will very quickly end up on the radar whether you want to or not.

Go directly to the source of the regulations -- in this case MDA forfeits to USDA -- do not pass go, do not collect $200.

As for price, add up what it costs you to raise them -- not just feed, not just bedding, but water, electricity, LABOR, office supplies, property taxes, facilities, up keep, etc.  Add a premium for the quality of the product.  Calculate reasonable scale and adjust profit margin to reflect a living wage.  Anything less and you're part of the problem, not the solution.  I can guarantee, you're going to come out a lot higher than an elderly Mexican woman wants to pay.  If I had a dollar for every time I've spent an hour giving a farm tour to an immigrant family knowing they would never buy anything I could retire to Fiji and be waited on by a hoard of hot, shirtless pool boys for the rest of my life -- it's a good thing they're always such nice and interesting people to spend time with.  Point her to your nearest small animal swap for excess roosters at a buck or two a piece, betcha she knows how to process, too.

HEHE. Yes, they are interesting people to chit chat with a while. Her grandkids were trying to catch Roger who decided that today is not the day for him to be nice and cuddly. LOL

Thanks Olive.
