Send that rain this way. It hasn't rained here in weeks. I am going to hate to see the water bill.
I wish I could drill a well.
I need to get some chores done before it gets too hot. Might have to turn on the A/C for the dogs and put the box fan in the tent coop for the hens.
Where are all these flies coming from?
Just posting to suscribe, I keep trying to catch up but never can so I'll just start here lol.

Was just wondering, how does one store lard for longevity? IOW, I guess how long is it good? we started making homemade sausage a couple years ago and sometimes it's a few weeks between deer (last season was a disaster hunting wise) and we don't want the lard to go bad. Can it be frozen?
Heck no, I've been losing stuff for years. Including my favorite pink boatneck sweater and a pair of size 7 rubber boots when I was a teenager. I swear the boots were not my fault. I have a theory on the sweater but no way it would fit now so what's the point?
Sounds like your coon may be bigger than your trap.
This is what DH has been using with great success.

F&T Fur Trappers have been very helpful to us. we've driven over a couple times, they're only about 40 minutes from here. If anyone wants us to pick them up a couple let us know. They're only open on the weekend though so DH would have to go today. (this is assuming they're open today, they're store hours are rather irregular.)

Well... looks like we have a smart coon. it tiipped and turned the darn trap. managed to still eat all the meat off the bone... did not get caught. the trap is about 15 feet where i left it, at the head of the path to the woods. i left it about 10 feet behind the meat coop. oh.. the bone is the only thing trapped...
Now what do i do?

Thank you Sam! I will use the half bag I have out there, then spread the chips. Might even let Chimi and his girl out of the yard to go poop on the new fresh lawn out there for a while.
I actually posted to you and it went under your radar this morning. probably because I was whispering.
me too!
My house.
shhhhh...dont tell everyone they are coming from my yard.

Yep. Both the raw fat (what I assume you're actually using in your sausage) and the final rendered lard (if you're so inclined) can be frozen. Some people still store rendered lard the old fashioned way, in the pantry or cupboard -- some process in the canner, others just put it on the shelf -- but I'm not quite that brazen. It used to be considered safe, but we've since learned it's not necessarily so -- which is why the shelf-stable lard you buy in the store is hydrogenated. Personally, I filter it into quart mason jars and then freeze. I take one jar out at a time and store it in the fridge for use. When one gets low or empty I pull out another. It lasts, basically, indefinitely this way.
Uh oh. Time to re-scan... LOL!

Olive
i had the creepiest dream ever in the whole world that I am sure had nothing to do with you..
I will spare you the entire dream, and only give you the highlight that makes me tell you anything anyhow.
On a buffet table was a platter with green olives but instead of pimentos, they had fresh blood dripped on them.

And nope, I hadnt been smokin or drinkin anything at all last night. Just dealing with my crippled husband.
Clearly this has nothing to do with me. I prefer Kalmatas.
