I am surprised I am still awake. I got home about 7 pm last night, had some left over pasta salad for dinner and crashed about 10. Other than one old lady trip to the loo around 4 am, I slept till 7. Yesterday was exhausting! But fun!

2 dogs, lots of guineas and too many chickens. No uggos!

RB -  If I have to have an Uggo, you have to have an Uggo.  Besides, we've been looking for an excuse to have lunch... I'll bring you a couple next time I'm in The D.  tongue.png

Awww, Nova.  This makes me sad.  (Yes, Olive has "sad".)  I really would like to meet you, too.   I know I come across strong, but I'm not so bad.  I will try hard to make it next year... summer is just so danged busy and chickens so far down my priorities list.  Now ya'll make a pig gathering and I'm there.  LOL!  Seriously, though, I'll try to make it. I've had the great pleasure of meeting many BYCers -- Chickflick, KrisRose, EeyoreD, Theron, Daron, etc -- and I've thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

Thank you all for the wonderful pictures.  I never get to come, so enjoy seeing everyone.  Looks and sounds like everyone had a wonderful time.  Maybe next year I will get a Saturday off so that I can meet you all.  Again thanks for the pics.

Busy busy busy...

I drove my mom and kids out to Camp Dearborn in Milford yesterday- stayed the whole day. I am caring for her critters while they are gone. AND glaring at her neighbors.

I have to work all week, I have two department meetings and have not made the notes for them yet- I still have a couple hours. i will get em done..hahahaha...was too busy this weekend to do it :)

My chicken yard looks so empty! Its so funny how dynamics work, though- Since Chimi is gone, Mrs. Chimi has taken to sleeping on the floor of the coop, under her new friend, my sizzle. I am certain she wishes she could roost next to her- but its too big of  a leap. They are new friends and hang out together.

My ONE little Uggo used to stick with the brown pullets that Vanessa has now. So, I collected her off a haybale in the yard and put her on the roost next to the D'Uccles. She hangs with them now- but one of them is very mean to her.

And mama Frizzle has her two little chicks, so they are off by themselves somewhere.

My new bunny is doing fabulous- named her Clover. She and Foofoo have been making introductions, doing well.

Robin, I am glad that your son loves Chimi- you were a fabulous group and it was so nice to hang out with you all. Keyt, RIRJEN- same for you as well. Good seeing you again.

I didnt quote anyone- was reading with my phone yesterday by the lake. Rather, the shallow man made beach..hahahaha. HOWEVER-

OLIVE...I counted that June 13th should be Uggo hatch day. My husband still doesnt know that there are eggs in the incubator.

I have the noisiest hen ever~ just got done saying, "I should have gave her away"...she is out there throwing the biggest tantrum..hu.gif

I have no idea what her problem is. There's just her, the frizzle and the Notmeatie hen- maybe she just noticed or something.

Im off to care for Moms critters, then to court to see if my son goes to jail, then to work for two department meetings- everyone have a great day, I'll catch up tonight.

We started off with 12 because we kinda figured some might die but here we are several months later with the same 12 chickens! And plans for increasing that number next spring! Yepp, we are just starting to understand the whole chicken math thing. All I know is that we need a bigger variety of chickens running around the yard. hehehe I just love how many shapes, sizes and colors they come in! woot.gifI think next spring we are going to try and get some Silver laced wyandottes, EEs, RIR, and maybe some Leghorns. OH, and maybe some more orpingtons, and austraulorps, welsummers, jersey giants or any other breed we can get our hands on! lol love.gifI have also been trying to convince the rest of the family that we should get some ducks or turkeys, or OSTRICHES! but no luck so far...anyways everyone that I have met on BYC so far has been soooo helpful and my chickens and I really owe BYCs for the knowledge they have shared with me. I love this site! bow.gif

Hola! Welcome!  Always nice to see another yooper!

When I got chickens, since I free range them, I assume I would lose some to predators. Nope! And everyone made it fine through winter, too. Chickens are definitely made of tough stuff.

We had a great time Saturday.  My DH said it wasn't too bad. roll.png  My son said we should do it every week.  Opa you and your family are incredible in the amount that you have taken on to make CS happen.  Thank you!  Mom those Polish are great.  Besides the first night of constant chirping they have settled in fine.... with 3 chicks my DH pointed out to me.  I spent yesterday playing catch up on everything.  Today I have to run into town and clean house because we have people coming over for my son's birthday.

Ideas on a predator. I have lost 2 bantams this week to something.  They disappear during the day.  The only one of the flock gone.  They are within 50 foot of the coop at all times in the group of chickens.  No feathers, no blood, no sign of struggle.  Just gone.  Any ideas what it might be getting them?   DH said we can put out some snares and see what's around. I'm just nervous to let anyone out right now.   I know there are coyotes around again but Momma wild turkey has been in the back field with her babies and I figured if she saw or heard something around she wouldn't be out there.

Beautiful morning out there.  Going to walk the woods another time.

Taprock, I would guess hawk.

And Happy Birthday to Von!

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?
